From The Diamond Cutter on Wallace:

Wallace’s greatest asset is his approach at the plate. He has very good plate discipline considering his age as it generally takes some time to get everything in synch. But Wallace is the type of hitter who refuses to expand his strike zone and waits pitchers out, forcing them to throw him something he can make solid contact with. Wallace also does a great job in plate coverage thanks to his batting stance which crowds the plate. With his advanced approach, Wallace has the potential to translate his success to the pros and could end up being a perennial on-base machine. I project him a .280-.300 hitter, around .380-.400 OBP and a slugging percentage in the upper .500’s. Then add in his 25-30 homers and 100+ RBI and you have a pretty strong offensive weapon that Albert Pujols will love having hit behind him. With all that said, he is an average defender at third (I view him higher than most) who would be better suited to play first, but with that position locked up, he will do just fine at the hot corner.

UPDATE:

According to most sources now, the deal is done and the Jays are about to trade Taylor for Brett Wallace - a 3B prospect.

What? I read Taylor looks like a five-tool 30HR/100RBI player. Why would you move that

Comparable prospects, Wallace can bat at an MLB level now, Taylor is another outfielder. The Jays might be okay with playing Lind in RF, Snider in LF and Wells in the middle, while farming Wallace for half a year or a year, then having him replace EE at 3rd.

Still need a crazy shortstop, but that'll come in a couple of years IMO. We can buy one at some point. Tejada (sp) would be nice though...

He can bat, but can he play defence at that weight? I don't like the look of the team defensively with Lind, Snider and Wallace all out there on the field. The increased batting ability is overshadowed by the inability to prevent runs, IMO.

Perhaps, that was a concern for sure.

I would imagine Wallace would move to 1st and Lind would DH. The lineup going forward would focus around the guys listed below.

LF - ??
CF - V Wells ughh
RF - Snider
3B - ??
SS - ??
2B - Hill
1B - Wallace
C - ??
DH - Lind

I just noticed that the Jays threw in $6M to help pay for Halladay's salary WTF?!

I don't get that either, but at least it's providing us with blue-chips prospects. 3 of them potentially. Ahhhhh!

From what I know so far:

LF - Snider
CF - Wells
RF - Bautista
3B - Encarnacion/Wallace
SS - A.Gonzalez/J.MacDonald
2B - Hill
1B - Overbay
C - ?
DH - Lind

C should be Chavez and I think the Jays are completing a trade for some dude whom I can't recall. Also, I think there's a C prospect coming over in the trade for Halliday - and look out for the other Jays' prospect.

The Jays should make a move for Bay or Holliday to put someone in the four spot with a huge bat.

I said the same and I was told "No chance." by people who follow hardcore.

They aren't ready to make that move yet. In 2 or 3 years, that might be an option.

**** I wanted Taylor. Seems like a great character guy, and obviously the potential, at that height, is impressive. It's not like his batting is going to be a weakness.

There's no way the Jays would do this after all that trouble unless they were pretty sure about him though.

Wow, I'm pretty surprised with the recent developments here. Isn't Wallace the prospect the Cardinals sent to the A's for Matt Holliday?? I had my heart kind of set on Taylor ... I guess we would have a glut of outfielders going forward then.

Also disappointed Aumont isn't coming our way either -- although Drabek may be a stud.

Drabek is much, much better than Aumont is. Aumont's probably going to end up as a closer, whereas Drabek looks like a future ace.

Apparently Aumont's hip causes him problems after 100 pitches.

We got one of the top prospect pitchers in the game in Drabek. Top 3 probably when the dust settles. Holy cow...what a major trade this was. Wallace is ranked as high as 19 in some scouting reports and no lower than 40 in the list of the best prospects in the world.

They'll likely move him to 1B at some point soon and let him 'swing away'.

And most seem quite excited about D'arnaud as well - if nothing else, he could form a nice tandem with Arencibia as soon as this year.

Interesting. Good trade for AA to be honest, getting the ace in Drabek back is huge, getting Wallace as well is massive. I was excited about Taylor's size, but size pertains more to hockey than baseball - usually anyway. Wallace has major pop in his bat and sounds like a 30HR, 90+ RBI guy. Perfect for the middle of the lineup around Lind, Hill and Wells.
