I did. 4 years of RFA @ 4 million a year, 4 years of UFA @ 8 million a year = 48 million dollars over 8 years = 6 million a year cap hit. Sarcasm

Who knows though really? I think that's what'll work out.

Wait a minute...that's two contracts.

Don't you have to do one at a time?

I don't mean it like that, they negotiate an 8 year contract where the first 4 years are lesser than the last 4 years.

@Spez> if the report from Chris Kuc is correct, the contracts will be announced as early as next Tuesday...you'll find out if you were right.

When they say long-term for Keith, they mean long-term.

I've read 13 years as a possible number.

I dont care who it is, 13 years is a stupid contract. I really like Kieth but that's way too long.

13 years? WOW!

When will we see the first 20 year contract?

He's 26 now. If it were to kick in next season, he would be 40 by the end. UPDATE: Toews, Kane sign 5 year deals, Keith signs a 13 year deal - Page 5 235689

Ovechkin's on a 13 year deal...

I guess we'll see the effects later on.

There is only one word that needs to be said when talking about these super long contracts.

DiPietro.

That is all.

I'm still going to stick with my guess of Richards/Carter or Getzlaf/Perry money for the pair of Toews/Kane and since this is the first I've commented on Keith, I will go with Seabrook/Weber/Burns money upwards of Green money, likely somewhere in between.

So basically $5.5M each for Kane and Toews, maybe $4.3 for Keith. Players are starting to realize the impact of their contracts on their teams ability to retain good talent. The more you eat up, the less the team has to spread around.

Anything more than that handcuffs the team and dominoes might fall - like Byfuglien, Versteeg, and others making ~$3 Mil. Remember you've also got Ginger making $7+.

If Chi -town can keep Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, and Barker together, they can be very competitive for many years.

He may be loving the guaranteed pay cheque... but I'm pretty sure he he's not enjoying all the lack of hockey.

Well, as much as I love hockey, I wouldn't be too torn up if I was making 6.5 mil for the next 10+ years to live life.

there won't be any13 year deal now that the league is pretending to look into front loaded contracts. i think around 6 mill is a good figure but since they are RFA maybe we'll see lower numbers. if they're smart they'll try and go for long terms.

but come on guys, who cares! what we really want to know is who ottawa will try to snipe away in a deal from chiago!!! UPDATE: Toews, Kane sign 5 year deals, Keith signs a 13 year deal - Page 5 235689 UPDATE: Toews, Kane sign 5 year deals, Keith signs a 13 year deal - Page 5 805406

haha, I didn't even realize. I'm sure the Isles brass just want to know what's going on there - if he will ever be healthy enough to play, and if not, to call it a career so they can get that cap hit off the books.

If D-P retires, and in a few years feels he is healthy enough to return, he would be a FA right? And would NY still owe him his salary?

The Hockey News is saying that ELC could go up from 3 years to 5 and then the salary would double the rookie salary of 800K in the new CBA. Said that everyone is getting killed by the loss of the 2nd contract. Could be good news for us and Karlsson, Cowen etc.

Would it be for all new ELC's? I'd think Karlsson and co would be grandfathered in and still on the old system.

No?

I dunno, I thought the same, but the Hockey News was naming guys who are playing now as well? Shrug

Pure speculation on THN part, but they seem pretty sure the new CBA will clear up this BS.
