Just checked the updated power rankings and despite being 5 and 2, 1st in the division, second in the conference and having the 2nd best PK in the league, Ottawa is ranked 10th. I realize it's some arbitrary list of criteria that some dude plugs into his stats machine but it still doesn't seem right to me.

I commented on this last week, when they moved up fro 24th to 20th. But they moved up 10 points to 10th -- that's a huge move. Since that 20th ranking they beat the Lightning and the Habs, and many will agree that they were lucky to escape the Bell Centre with 2 points the way they played early in the game.

So, I'm OK with 10th for now. Big road trip coming up. Only two games before the next numbers come out, but if we can beat the Preds (should be a win) and Bruins (with Lucic out and Kuba back in, should have a more than decent chance) then I would suspect we would at least pass Barfalo.

Sixth? Wow!

Atlanta has only lost once. They just haven't played a lot of games.

I don't think Buffalo and Atlanta should be ahead of us. It could also be argued that the Caps should be below us as well based on play so far. If we beat Nashville and Boston it can still be argued that we faced poor teams with sub 500 records though. I think we need Kuba back and a much improved PP to move up I think.

Yes to us...and the reason TSN gave was because they've been out-shot by an average of 10.4 shots a game...don't see how that puts them in 5th

I'm OK with it, we climbed 10 spots. Except for Atlanta at #5, the top 15 is debatable at worst.

Ranking teams at this point in the season is pretty silly. Until each team has played a larger and more representative collection of teams it's pretty much a guess.

I wonder if any of the buffoons at TSN would like to re-think the whole Leafs finish ahead of Ottawa thing???

Not that I get too much out of these rankings so early in the year but we are better here...

Never.

Toronto losing 7 straight is all part of Burke's master plan to lull the rest of the teams into a false sense of security until Kessel and the Monster return. Then the Leafs will go on a tear and win the Eastern Conference, Kessel will win the scoring title, Gustavsson will win the Vezina and Calder Trophies and Ron Wilson will get the Jack Adams and in the offseason the Leafs will win a dodge ball championship.

Like alot of people have said, at least we've made a significant jump up the standings.

I look at that top 15 on that page, and just can't help but think- if you showed me that these were the top 15 teams in the league before the season started, I would have shook my head and laughed.

NYR #1? 3-7 is Phoenix, Atlanta, Colorado, and Buffalo?

Wow.

I swear that TSN and Sportsnet has an agenda against us. The Hockey News isn't fond either. They can all eat Dung and die - we play as a team from here on in, what people in these questionable media outlets say doesn't matter a hill of beans.
