That does make sense. He would have a similar role there as he did here though, but a chance to play.

I don't understand this though????

People are saying that Melnyk and Murray don't want to spent 900K on a guy for Bingo and they're willing to absorb the cap hit to free themselves of the contract. I guess...can't really argue.

Still not pleased, but that's the way she goes I guess.

I guess it is a savings, but it is also a cap hit. Anyway, if he doesn't get picked up, what then?

Maybe a team is waiting for him to clear and get sent down again? Unless there's a deal for him and Zubov?

No, in that case it would be like an E4. I heard someone say it, therefore it must be true. :^^^^:

If he doesn't get picked up that would be very embarrassing for him and for us. I'm sure he'll be claimed.

Poor Zubov, I feel badly that the Sens are basically telling him he's being moved.

They already gave us the equivalent of the 7th. Choochoo.

Pfft. We should have MADE the Sharks take Schubert. Unreal. Really can't believe they're willing to eat 400K to let Schubert play for another team who gets him for half price.

I actually said earlier that it would suck for ANY team to have the opportunity to get this guy at half an already reasonable price after he'd been shopped for so long.

Bad move.

Not sure I see the logic here either, other than BM wanting to a) save Melnyk $450K and b) give Schubert a real chance to play in the NHL again. Those are good reasons, granted, but...

For the team's cap situation, it certainly doesn't help.

If Schubert is claimed, we pretty much have to make a move to free up cap space. We'll go from $1.3 / 1.7 mil in cap space (without bonus cushion / with bonus cushion) to about $900K / $1.3 mil in cap space -- which is just too little, I'd say.

If Schubert is claimed, then, I'd say we'll see more movement shortly down the line, no later than when Winchester returns. That means either Picard, Donovan, or Kelly will be moved (1-way deals), or Regin or Karlsson (unlikely, I know) will be send down (2-way deals). No ifs, ands, or buts.

Note: according to that waiver-eligibility list I found in the summer (http://hfboards.com/showpost.php?p=11040207&postcount=14), Carkner is NOT exempt from waivers. We could lose him if we try to send him down.

Or maybe someone is little more seriously injuried and he is coming in for a replacement.

I heard that about Carkner. But if we send him down, it's the kind of player an organization is keeping for depth that teams usually will let slide by. If anyone wanted him, I'm sure they would contact us. But yeah, stranger things have happened.

But why risk Schubert being claimed in that case? Why not dress Donovan or call up one of Z.Smith, Cody Bass or Zubov? Doesn't make sense. Shrug

It'll be the best thing for him. This guy should be playing on an NHL scoring line by now.
