Nope. I still long for him every time I see Fisher or Kelly lining up for a defensive zone face off, or Kelly going in on a short-handed breakaway.

If Cheechoo plays anywhere like he did a few years ago when he potted 56. Heatley will be quickly forgotten.

We can all hope.

If there's any player out there that looks like he needs a change in scenery ... it's Cheechoo.

Why'd his numbers drop so much ? Injuries and demotions to the 3rd line on a deep team ?

He still had an off year. I think he could do even better with the new additions. Maybe kelly can benefit from playing between Folingo and Shannon.

I think he could, I dont disagree with it, but I still think that FFS line should be kept together. Kelly really does play well with Alfi so I think it is a pretty good fit.

The idea IMO is to get the most from everyone not the most for the money. The players are paid no matter where they play. Just my 2 cents.

Let's be clear on this. Cheechoo was just as much at fault for "having his role diminished" as Heatley. He stunk, that's why he was put on the third line. Not because the coaches had some sort of vendetta against him.

Vermette will be here next year, he is an UFA, and loves Ottawa

Michalek Spezza Alfie
Cheechoo Vermette Kovalev
Foligno Fisher Smith
Rutuu Bass Neil

Hows that look?

I'm getting pretty tired of the trade Kelly talk - we want guys that want to be here in Ottawa and Kelly wants to be here.

The guy is a leader and is a big part of the core.

Cheechoo - Spezza - Kovalev
Michalek - Kelly - Alfi
Foligno - Fisher - Shannon
Neil - Winchester - Ruutu

Kuba/Karlsson
Phillips/A Train
Campoli/Lee
Picard

Leclaire
Elliott

Not a bad lineup, not a lot has to be done either. It might be a good idea to keep Schubert over a guy like Picard for the simple fact Schubert can ill in anywhere... anyways, that's how I think things will look. Murray has done a pretty good job considering everything on his plate.

I love that line up - pretty damn impressive.

He is an UFA, good friends with Spezza and Foligno, scored 16 goals which puts him in th 3 mil range,

Why would we not be in the mix?

Looks good to me, looks like a playoff team.

Players have good friends everywhere. Could he come back to Ottawa, sure, it's not impossible, but having friends on teams doesnt mean much.

"I would like to open up a spot for one of the kids from rookie camp". Murray is not done, someone else will be moving.

Because we have to re-sign Volchie, Foligno, Winchester, Picard, Campoli and LEe perhaps?

AS much as you and me like Vermette, we can't play with 2 Defensemen for 60 min ^^.

I like Kelly but this is why you need to get rid of him. Honestly would you rather of had kelly at 2.2 last season or Vermette at 2.75. If kellys gone and vermette signs in ottawa for 2.75 we are fine. We need to keep Volch and Foligno and probably Lee, but with guys like Regin, Smith, Cowen, Karlsson, and Wiercoch coming, winchester, pickard, and campoli are spare parts.
