not sure if Jim Travers has any validity either, but well his twitter account says he figures Heatley will be gone by training camp and so will Picard, I don't think Picard has had a fair shake yet, even despite the log jam we have at D.

Edit: I am certain these are rumours only and that is how they will remain. I could get a twitter account and start spouting off random rumours, but I am certain that has been done before.

If we haven't been able to get a fair deal for Heater by now I'm not sure how that'll change by training camp.

Interested teams are dead set on getting Heatley for a song.

BM is adamant about getting fair value for #15.

I think the best thing to do is keep him until the trade deadline. Teams making a push for the cup will be far more willing to trade then.

Not to mention it'll be fairly obvious by then who the Stanley Cup contenders are, so Heatley may revise his "list" accordingly. I think his trade request has more to do with Ottawa not being a Cup contender anymore and nothing to do with this "diminished role" business (which has been debunked by statistics).

Yep. It's the phenomenon known as "Eklund." Laughing3

Smid speaks out on "trade"

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Edmonton/2009/08/24/10590041-sun.html

“I talked to Cogs (Cogliano) and he was devastated,” Smid said. “It was just
weird to see our names out there. Usually someone calls you and tells you
that you got traded. But sitting there and not knowing whether you got
traded or not is different. It took a really long time, it took almost a
month before Heatley decided whether he was going to come to another team.”

Brutal.

I agree. "Cogs" is a brutal nickname.

Better than "Need for Smid," "Smidipus Rex" or "Don't Bite the Hand That Smids You."

If true, then good. Marleau as the centrepiece of the Heatley deal would be a colossal blunder. I'd take the original EDM deal any day, and I really didn't like that deal.

Marleau couldn't have been the centerpiece...unless he was signed to a long term extension at 5ish million - and thinking more about it, I doubt that was an option.

We would have gotten back Ehrhoff and Couture I would imagine.

Exactly. Murray is not trading an asset like Heatley who is signed for 6 more years(or so) for Marleau who is a UFA next July. Then the trade potentially becomes Heatley for 1 year of Marleau plus Ehroff and Couture

Thank god. I don't want a pending UFA who would have to be convinced to come here. Particularly one who can run very hot and cold.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure people are confusing him with Giguere.
