rooney brings up the biggest question that i have been wondering since the announcement of him talking tomorrow about whether he will still eb concerned about getting traded or if he sees that this team may be a contender that he may want to stay and mend his ways

From what his Agent has said, it looks like he's still open to a trade... I guess if he came out and said he's had a change of heart and is rescinding his trade request and is committed to the Sens, then that would signal the end of that madness... and the beginning of another...

Hi sagent is saying he won't even comment on asking for a trade. What the hell is he going to say then? I doubt we'll ever know the real reason why he wants out.

If this is the case he's even more of a tool than I thought. He must have known Murray had a plan going into the summer - ie Kovalev or Cammaleri - so, if he was so intent on winning, wouldn't he have asked Murray exactly what his plans were? Plus, I know he's short on brain power, but it would interest me to know that Karlsson and Cowen are on the way. I'd even look at Wiercioch with interest. He's here long enough to prosper under an NHL caliber D, Spezza's signed long term, Alfie's here for a while.

I said it before, and I stand by it. I feel he wants to captain a team - like...soon. This is where the Sharks are darn near close to a perfect fit for His Highness. But, they couldn't move salary, we want a specific deal from them. It's not that easy, hey Heater?

The problem with that idea is that any team that now knows he is moving because he wants to be captain, also knows that he is too selfish to be captain.

Who is going to follow a leader that might be leading the opposition a week later, because he demanded to be moved?

Mixed with wanting added responsibilities, like PKing, power play 1, top line, 23 minutes a night. He feels he's elite, best of the best in terms of wingers (which would be true if he was faster and used his 220 properly) and he wants the responsibilities of an Alife or an Iginla. Plus, from all accounts, he's a pretty good leader, although, I realize the hypocrisy of that when he bails because the coach is asking him to work harder.

Heatley is not leadership material, IMO.

Figured I'd post this from AnotherSensBlog:

"In other news, Bryan Murray shared his voice with Leafs Lunch (the same Leafs Lunch that accused the Sens of being coke addicts). Catch the podcast here, Murray is in the first few minutes (after the first break) and will probably only take up 10 minutes of your time.

Here are the highlights, including bold around the one piece that you probably care about the most.

- rookie camp coming up in Kitchener, expecting big things of Karlsson, Regin, and Zach Smith. Said Cowen is training in Ottawa and likely not ready for game action.

- Murray STRONGLY expects Karlsson to compete for a spot on the club, said he is tremendous and the only thing hurting him is his size. Seriously, given the tone on this, it truly sounds like Karlsson is expected by management to make the team.

- He added that they expect Lee to be a full-time defenceman and grow a lot, also named off the rest of the defenders but seemed to throw a bit more attention to Campoli and Lee and Kuba. "I think our defence is far better this year than last year".

- Kind words for Leclaire, said he's ready to go and is seen as a "considerable upgrade", though they're still very happy with Elliot.

- On cap space, he said he isn't sure where the team is (I hope he's kidding). Simply put, he says if we have Heatley, we're over the cap, if we don't have Heatley, we're fine. Not sure how that involves a trade and salary coming back, but Murray went on to say that we have some players on two-way contracts that we can send down in the short-term while he continues to look for a long-term solution. I'm not positive who is on a two-way contract, but I thought Lee was one, which kinda sucks. I still can't imagine he can solve the cap problems and keep Gator on the big team. LTIR?

- On the Heatley saga "No, we're not any closer to an end. I have continued to talk to a few teams about it lately...it has been going slow, dragging on all summer, disappointed that it has gone on so long. It will be resolved soon either through a trade in the next little bit of time, or we expect Dany at camp."

- finally, Murray said fans are asking why a good player doesn't want to be in Ottawa, it has been difficult on ticket sales.

So what does it all mean? First off, the whole 'Murray has been quiet so that means something is going to happen this afternoon' idea is out. Murray has now spoken. That being said, he did admit that he is still actively talking to teams and hopes to get this resolved through a trade soon. I'm sorry to call out others on this, but it was plain as day in this interview that there was never a deadline last week for a trade to be made. From this interview, Murray clearly says he'll work on this right up until camp and if no resolution comes via trade, he'll deal with the cap issues in other ways. But nothing in mid-August for a deadline. Nothing. C'mon, people, there are no leaks in that organization right now. The only Sens trade news that is real comes straight from the mouth of the GM. Other sites are right in that if Dreger and McKenzie aren't printing it, it's because it isn't true.

Good news - Murray is still working actively with teams and his first priority is to make a trade prior to camp.
Bad news - Camp starts in three weeks.

Also, what are your thoughts on Murray's opinion that Karlsson is ready to compete for the big club? If he makes it, he'll be babysat like crazy, just seeing PP time and going against second lines that neither score nor hit. That's fine with me, work him in slow!"

"Heatley has five years and $33.5 million U.S. remaining on his contract ($4 million of his $8 million salary for 2009-10 was paid out on July 1), but he will face more concerns the longer.."

This is the 2nd time this week that Ken Warren has gotten facts wrong (or at least questionable) when discussing the team he's paid to discuss... Someone should really call this guy out (or hand him a pamphlet for re-enrolment in grade school).

This isn't tough math to do: Heatley signed a 6 year contract paying him 45 million. He was paid 10 million in the first season of the deal. At the beginning of the 2nd year, he was paid a 4 million dollar advance.

45-10-4 = 31

not 33.5.....

Unreal.

Cas, interesting read there from AnotherSensBlog. Thanks for sharing.

So if Karlsson is strongly expected to make the team that pushes us another $1.3M (?) further in the hole. Even if we take Smith's cap hit off (LTIR) and send Lee to Bingo, we're at $1.7M cap room -- that's about right for injury reserves. With that we'd be carrying 12F, 6D and Schubert as a swing man. Perfect, except nothing has been said about Smith going on the LTIR (at least not by anyone who counts) and it sounded like Murray is quite high on Lee as well.

Even if Heatley is moved (to create the cap room) we still need to move a couple of defensemen (Smith and Schubert?)

I certailny hope there's no buyouts being planned -- those are expensive and, frankly, demeaning. I still think that Schubert at under $1M is a very useful player on some club. Surely we could get him traded, even if only for future considerations.

Unless Hedman busts, I don't see it. VH has almost 7 inches and 50lbs on Karlsson, and has basically been handed the #1, 25-30 minute per night position.

EDIT: That said, if Karlsson does make the team and plays on the top powerplay unit, he could walk away from this season with a lot of points.
