Well, if he doesn't give the media something substantial... I think they'll just continue to rip him and trash him as they'll feel ripped off, as will fans like us.

Makes you wonder if there's a trade imminent as well...

Hmmmm..........

Getcha popcorn ready! This is going to be better than a Terrell Owens driveway workout!

well unless Heatley has grown up a lot in the last few months of this happening, we will be seriously disappointed by what he has to say, my opinion anyway.

No, I'm thinking more in terms of what he's going to say to the media questions, particularly Dumb and Dumber from the Sun.

Garrioch and Brennan? are you certain Garrioch will take time away from the buffet for this? I hope it's catered.

Garrioch will be on his cell phone dialed in from the buffet... he's the master at multi-eating... er... tasking...

I wondered how he was going to do that, your idea makes perfect sense. should be quite the presser indeed then, wonder if TSN will interrupt Tennis for this.

Anyone know what time it's supposed to be? I doubt we'll get live coverage of it... a media conference call followed by a press conference... we may get the presser covered live.

Not really sure what's gonna come out of this.  If he's not going to talk about why he wants out, "out of respect for the ottawa organization", what is he going to talk about?

Yeah really... what is the point?

I don't see how we can even consider trading him anymore. I would imagine thats a legally binding statement and I'm pretty damn sure we won't be getting anything resembling fair value in a trade.

You figure teams will back off now that they know he's going to be a man about things and not a quivering ball of suckass? It may be a legally binding statement, but I don't see how that stops Murray from trading him, unless no team steps up.

I'm operating under the assumption that no team will step up. Even if Heatley plays at the 60-70 point pace he was at under Clouston, its highly unlikely that we'll get anything better in return. And given that he undoubtedly wants on the Olympic squad, I think we can expect a ppg pace from him until at least January. I don't expect much from Heatley in 2010, but for the rest of 2009, I think he'll be solid for us.

As for BM the GM, make no mistake about it: Murray wants a Stanley Cup. Having Heatley on this team is undoubtedly the best way he can accomplish that feat. As much as Murray is building for the future, it has been crystal clear that he was unwilling to sacrifice the present.

Who cares? Shrug All we needed to know at this point is that he's willing to play again in Ottawa (which the Kovalev signing probably influenced) and that he does indeed care about the Olympics.

If he gets traded, then its finally over and we can move on. If he doesn't, then we have one of the premiere top-6's in the entire NHL cool)

His responses will be perfunctory and unenlightening, but its the beginning of the resolution to this (seemingly) neverending saga :___:

His contract legally binds him to show up if he's not traded. This is just his agent saying he won't hold out like Yashin did.

No performance guarantees though...

I have to say, for all the cowardice he's showing in not speaking up until now, it's going to take some set of stones to step into the limelight here in Ottawa. If he can do it and play at a high level, then maybe this thing will all go away.

Still holding on to him being moved. Maybe this statement will be solely a PR move to assuage the concerns of a prospective new team

I tend to think the opposite. Depending on how this talk goes (which I suspect will be totally insubstantial, and most certainly will NOT go into the specifics of his reasons for asking for a trade), I'm guessing that this will be the beginning of the mending of bridges for the Heatley and the Sens & their fans.

That is, the beginning of that PR campaign of epic proportions that I've been saying will be necessary to squeeze Heatley back into the dressing room and into the hearts of fans.

I don't know if there's any other way to read this. Which will make Fire&Ice happy.

Which is OK with me, too, I guess. I'm still very concerned about whether or not he'll destroy this team from the inside out, but I've also been very concerned about trading him for magic beans or for a package that handcuffs us further financially. We all know what Heatley can do, and I've said from the very beginning that it was Donkey-backwards of fans to demonize the guy. There is no question that, whatever the return for him might have been, we will be a better team with happy, committed Heatley on it.

Anyway, people, you really DON'T want to hear Heatley's real reasons for asking for a trade. As someone astutely pointed out above, if he dwells on that too much, he will either destroy his own reputation and value even further, or he will destroy the reputation of the organization. There's no alternative. Either he'd come off looking like a loser, or the Sens would.

Tomorrow's talk will be a white-wash. The only question is how adamant he says he is in seeking a trade to another team and the nature of his relations with the organization. If he softens here, even a bit, then we will have seen the beginning of the much-discussed PR campaign of epic proportions to smooth things over in Sens land.

Yeah, we'll never really know the real reason unless someone catches Heatley on tape somehow spilling his guts...

This certainly does feel like the beginning of "The Mother Of All PR Campaigns" to fix the damage done so far.

rooney brings up the biggest question that i have been wondering since the announcement of him talking tomorrow about whether he will still eb concerned about getting traded or if he sees that this team may be a contender that he may want to stay and mend his ways

shabbs

Hall of Famer

From what his Agent has said, it looks like he's still open to a trade... I guess if he came out and said he's had a change of heart and is rescinding his trade request and is committed to the Sens, then that would signal the end of that madness... and the beginning of another...

Hi sagent is saying he won't even comment on asking for a trade. What the hell is he going to say then? I doubt we'll ever know the real reason why he wants out.
