The Heatley Saga: What's in store in the next 30 days?

Can someone explain to me why Minny feels it needs to make a play for Heatley? Especially after acquiring Havlat...

From a Minny perspective, I can see that adding Heatley while keeping Koivu and Havlat would be ideal... they would end up with a sweet offense with those three players.

But I can't see Murray not asking for Koivu in return.

And if they moved Koivu, are they really that much better off without us sending some other offense along with Heatley?

I guess I'm just trying to play Chuck Fletcher...

I have been meaning to ask this a long time, is a time deadline in the day that a trade would have to be made official by the league (say the league office closes at 4 pm Eastern time or something like that?) I just want to see if I have to keep monitoring this closely all evening or if I will have to call it quits until Monday again if it's not completed by a certain time.

EK now saying the Sharks have "unofficially" pulled out of the Heatley race...

There is no time deadlines to be concerned about right now. A trade could happen at 3:23 AM EST.

But seriously, do not monitor this closely as you say, you will be in for a big disappointment. Nothing is happening on the Heatley front.

Not likely. That's usually around the time NHL GMs tend to have meetings with Eklund.

that is definitely what I am figuring, will believe it if I see it, but I am like you, not thinking it will, Murray will have to go forward with Dany Heatley as part of the roster, then figure out another way to dump some salary to get back under the cap.

It would be interesting to know if the deadline is 11.59pm Eastern or if Western teams will have to opportunity to submit their proposals until 11.59 Pacific?

It sounds like the San Jose Sharks are making another pitch for Heatley this afternoon.
The offer will once again include Jonathan Cheechoo but has apparently been restructured and now includes a different Sharks blueliner.
No word yet on the Senators reaction to the latest offer.

Different from who? Vlasic and Ehrhoff have both been mentioned. I guess whoever was last mentioned of those two was substituted with the other?
