Oh Dung...I never noticed he was on fire. I prefer to think that he's all sorts of diddled up/panicked. Ahhhhh! Ahhhhh! <------ Like that guy.

Don't you remember me using it in a post and saying it was Michael Jackson? I followed it up by "What, to soon?"

Although, there's no real closure on the Jason Smith scenario yet.

Man, I wish these people would do their homework.

If you keep the team to 21, with all one-way deals except for Foligno (so Lee and Regin in the minors), and you invoke the bonus cushion on Foligno's $65K bonus, the Sens are actually UNDER the cap right now -- only by a measly $44K, granted. Diddle, seriously, this is embarrassing journalism -- it takes like 2 minutes to figure this stuff out.

I'm not 100% but I think Rooney might disagree with that number (assuming Warren wasn't just being "cute")

Haha, definitely!

Only if you include Regin. Take him off the roster (he's not going to be a 13th forward anyway -- he either makes the team, flat out, and plays, or he stays in the minors), and the Sens are actually under the cap.

The Sens need to clear about $1.5 mil, I'd say, to be in the cap position they want to be in -- i.e., to have the cap space to accommodate call ups, injuries, trade deadline deals.

If Smith were on LTIR for, say, 3-4 months and if we moved someone like Schubert, we will comfortable. It's not going to take much, especially if Smith is scheduled to be on LTIR for any length of time.

Yeah, that's definitely right -- especially considering that if Smith isn't playing, then Lee will be our 5/6 D man. At $1.275, Lee only costs 50% of what Smith does, but that figure still puts us too close to the cap ceiling to be comfortable. At least one smaller contract has to go (Schubert? Donovan?) sometime soon, regardless of Smith's status.

If Smith is healthy, however, then everything changes. Then we could either move 2-3 guys on smaller contracts, or one guy on a $1.5-2.5 mil contract. And, again, moving Smith would mean calling up Lee, which would mean we'd have to move yet another contract (like Schubert).

It's a little murky at the moment, but I don't think it'll be too hard to sort out.

Now that I see the numbers though, I can see where Warrren would have got his numbers. If we assume that his definition of "staying below the cap" is being 1.5 below for flexibility and if we assume he's still got Lee in his lineup; there's your 2.8.

Is this the first thread to reach 50 pages? That must be some kind of record.

Nope.

67 pages seems to be the limit when a thread is then forked.

See here:

http://www.gmhockey.com/the-lounge-f1/all-hockey-talk-all-the-time-t1812.htm

It hit 67 pages, was then forked with the old one closing and a new one started.

How long did the first thread on this go? I remember it got automatically locked when it hit a certain number of pages.

pretty certain we have had longer topics, but well, they have all had to do with Heatley, well in the last little while they have anyway. Heatley is gold when it comes to posts for this forum. We still hate him though, or tolerate him since he will be in the lineup come October from who it's looking.

We have had longer topics, but it seems like at around 900 posts it automatically closes/perhaps starts a new thread.

I think the preliminary Heatley trade demand discussions went to two and a half threads like that.

Yeah, that was it. 67 pages, then it locked and we had to start a new one.

now that you mention, you are right on that, the general hockey discussion thread was pretty large too, but that got left behind when the Heatley discussion started.

OK, so checking the stats, this is at 744 (745 now) posts. The EJ Hradek....Dany Heatley thread went to 990 (which seems to be the cut-off) and then proceeded to go to 905 when it re-opened.

So, we've got some work to do if we ever want to top that one.

Undoubtedly, though, the Dany Heatley trade demand is by far and away the most post-producing event in this site's history.

I just assumed Warren was going with a 24-man roster (!), with Lee and Regin and Bass in the line-up. Those three add up to close to the $2.8 mil figure he's citing.

In any event, leaving cap space is a discretionary thing (and a wise decision, I might add), but it's not mandatory. That's not to say we won't create that space (we absolutely will), but to say we "have" to clear that space is not entirely truthful, either.

Anyway, I'd say the Sens need to clear a minimum of $1.6 mil to be where they want to be, and comfortably.
