If Brent Burns comes to Ottawa, I might just go buy a Burns Jersey in all three formats (red, white and yes even the ugly third)!! Of course after I buy my Spezza jersey

POLL: What will happen with Heatley?
SpezDispenser wrote:This rumour makes sense for a lot of reasons. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it makes sense.
Consider:
1.Tampa Bay trades Artukin (sp) to Anaheim, saves 500K.
2.Tanguay is apparently down to deciding between Minny and Tampa Bay
3.Tampa Bay learns that he's leaning towards them, dumps some extra money.
4.Minny realizes it's lost the final remaining UFA forward of significance.
5.Minny scrambles to meet the Ottawa imposed deadline, begins thinking seriously of acquiring a back-to-back 50 goal man - knowing full well that Murray will want/insist on Burns.

It's completely moot unless he waives. After seeing him shoot down a trade already, I am not holding my breath. We better be getting more than Brent Burns though. As much as I love him, he's not worth Heatley straight across in my opinion. I need Cal Clutterbuck also to help me sleep at night.

Oh it better be more than Burns, but the excitement comes from Burns being part or the centerpiece of the deal. Would Heatley refuse to waive yet again?? If he does, than he has a lot of guts to think he might get traded after refusing 2 trade proposals

If he waives again he damn well better not come back to Ottawa, or risk being lynched lol.

Yikes, you're shooting too high IMO. Burns is a big time young D-man. If we got anything back more than him, I'd be...overjoyed.

Perhaps, but this last minute attempt from Minny reeks of desperation and Murray needs to exploit that. Plus, the casual Ottawa fan will be choked if it is Burns straight across for Heatley. I know Burns is a stud, as do you, but the average Joe perhaps does not. This would need some serious PR.
Who do we bump from the D if Burns comes over? At the risk of getting flamed, I'd almost rather see Burns go back to the wing. We could really use a huge skilled body up there. I'm thinking similar to Byfuglien with more skill. If someone goes down, we've got the insurance policy of putting him on the blueline and not missing a beat. Maybe it's just me and I pine for a big bruiser up front, which is something we've never really had, but I think Burns could have more impact as a forward. He's certainly got the skill set.

The more I thought about it, the more you might be right. They are desperate - and I really think they lost out on Tanguay. I think there might be a piece or two more moving. Lee or Picard or even Campoli. Maybe a Bass or a Zubov or a Regin etc. and perhaps we snare one of Minny's other forwards.
In terms of Burns back at forward, it's an option for sure, but he's maturing so quickly as a crazy D-man, that we'd be smart to keep him there IMO. Again, it's a neat option to have though.
This is all moot until something happens obviously. The timeline of this makes sense, I'll say that much.

They can have Lee, who was born there. It would lessen the blow of losing Burns for their fans to get a young hometown guy to "replace" Burns.
That would also allow us to snag someone else. I don't know how much offense they are willing to give up, but Sheppard would be great. I just love Clutterbuck's game. He's got nice scoring touch, and his role would be expanding. He also obliterated the league record for hits in a season last year. 356....40 over the previous record.
To put in perspective how impressive that number of hits is: He was over 40 clear of the 2nd place guy, Orpik and 145 more than the highest Senator, Fisher. 145 hits in a season is a nice season on it's own.

Problem is, where would you put Clutter or Sheppard. We have enough bottom 6 players to sink a ship. I love Clutterbuck, great little sparkplug, but could we possibly dare dream about possible PM Bouchard coming back as well?

In a more wide open system, he's bound to generate more offense. Like I said, he's got more offensive skill than we've seen. And where do I put him? On Fisher's right wing with Foligno on the other side. Have fun playing against that line everyone. 80-90 goals isn't unreasonable from them, along with 600+ hits.

Make it so...I want to wake up tomorrow and have this mess sorted out with my new franchise D-man waiting.
