If Heatley does have a good year he will be worth as much in June and he would in March, probably more considering last years trade deadline. How many big deal were there again? How many 1st rounders and prospects changed teams?

Everyone knows Heatley is available now and teams are far more prepared and aware to make adjustments throughout the entire year.

So many things can happen with Heatley and The Sens, its impossible to put them all out there.

That's a point I definitely support. If he's tearing it up here, we can wait until summer (unless a deal comes around that's ridiculous).

If he's not tearing it up...we have a real problem here. That money needs to spent elsewhere. If he sucks badly and we can't move him next summer, we're in a world of hurt.

But then again...that applies to every team and their high priced talent. Issue at work here is that Heatley wants out - and at this point we want him out- but we won't deal for garbage. Ahhhhh!

Ridiculous scenario. Unreal actually. :^^^^:

Agreed...again, I don't understand the logic behind thinking his value will increase mid-season. Honestly, GMs are thinking the same as us. They know with the olympics are coming up and Heatley wants a spot. They know what they've heard in the media, same as us. They know he's a great sniper with the potential to knotch 50 goals in a season. These things aren't going to change mid-way through the season. And teams being more willing to take him on because his salary will be less? What, so they can be stuck in the same spot as us right now, -1 year? Honestly, I'd be happy with a Dubinsky +prospects and picks trade at this point.

Some teams are in a situation where contracts are coming off the books next year, so affording his $7.5M is not a problem for the remaining 4 years. But this season they only have $4M in cap space, perhaps. So they can't afford him now (without moving contracts) but will have the cap space in March.

Not saying it will happen, but that there are situations that will make it possible for a team to take on Heatley in March, but not in October.

Okay, that's a valid point. I just don't think when it comes to Heatley's value, these teams that now have the ability to bring him on are going to be offering more than what is being offered now...not much more anyway. The issues are all the same. But, you're right, it becomes feasible for some teams where it just isn't at this point.

Teams do crazy things nearing the deadline with the Stanley Cup playoffs approaching and their mouths salivating at the thoughts of the Cup.

Many many outlandish trades have been made over the years.

Okay but you didn't address my question. Don't you think, as GM of our team, Murray should be concerned about the effect Heatley is going to have on our team? A negative impact on the players that want to be here is just one of many outcomes that could come from Heatley not being traded. It just seems like you've thought of Heatley, Kovalev and the rest playing together and how glorious it could be (and you're right, it could be) and closed your eyes to any other potential ramifications.

Heatley will not have a negative influence on any of our young guys as Alfie, Phillips, Fisher, Smith, Donovan, maybe even Volchenkov and surprisingly enough maybe even Spezza would not let that happen.

Yep, the deadline or draft. I have said it forever (lol, ok a it's only been a week and 3 days).

Repeat after me. Be prepared for Heater on opening night.

Round and round we go.

I would assume so after all this, but if a deal came along tomorrow morning, then some other team would be preparing for Heatley on opening night.

And I like reality so "Be prepared to see Dany Heatley wearing #15 for the Ottawa Senators on opening night 2009/10."

There will be a lot of people who wasted valuable family time and words by entertaining baseless rumors on this site.

I love the knowledge on this site, some of the best I have found, but the affinity for some bloggers and their lies is puzzling. scratch

It's not that, it's that while I acknowledge there's a 95% chance of Heatley being in Ottawa opening night as of now, there's still obviously that 5% chance that a team actually tables the right offer and Murray pulls the trigger.

To say it's 100% isn't correct. It's close, but it's not 100% set in stone. Murray would not be doing his job if he didn't still listen to every deal tabled on any of his players. Shrug

Murray hasn't accepted an offer because the ones he has been getting have been crap.

Do you actually believe that there are offers being tabled like the ones that are being talked about on here?

With all due respect, give your head a shake! Ahhhhh!

The whole point of coming onto this site is to discuss all things Sens. Murray may not have accepted an offer but does that eliminate the possibility that he won't receive an acceptable one? You may think that some of us have our heads in the clouds but honestly, if you don't want to talk about the various rumours, as some of us do, you may want to ignore this thread. Murray plays his cards very close to his chest so no one really knows what he is thinking or who he is talking with. I think it is just good fun for people to discuss the rumours that are circulating. Given Murray's history in the NHL and the fact that he is a guy that respects deals and expects his players to be respectful, I am sure that he is burning up inside from the way that Healtey has disrespected the team, Melnyk, and the fan base. If Murray can find an acceptable deal, he will do it. Will that be a trade that we are discussing here? Who knows, only Murray knows that.

If that were the case, would you be happy Heatley was dealt?
2nd to boston might, just might(if all the stars are aligned) be possible.

With healthy goaltending, 2 legit scoring lines and 2 PP units who can score? 1st in the division is more then possible with a stacked lineup like that, but we'll see come oct 3 what the team looks like.

I also think it is just as likely that The Sens go into the tank and know them selves out of the playoffs before the 20 game mark.

As for Boston, it's a lot harder to stay on top then it is to get to the top. Everyone will be gunning for them and Pittsberg, we'll see how they play through an entire year having a target on their backs.

Ottawa, with or without Heatley is 100% the biggest unknown in the league.

Or either Zdeno Chara or Tim Thomas have a season ending injury during the 1st ten games, everything changes.
So, all I'm saying is, everything is possible. Wink

Most people are writing them off again I think... so it will be interesting to see how they perform with "low" expectations.

The 1st 15 games will tell the story. The Sens could literally be out of the playoffs the 1st month of the season.

i think hockey (non-sens)fans are underestimating the sens. i think coaches and players will know better. still we are not the penguin pittsburg and i`m sure they`ll have a much harder time then us. but we`ll receive alot more attention when we come to town then let`s say the thrashers... i would also bet we make the playoffs, but i wouldn`t bet the house.
all and all for me it`s a wait and see season.
i`m excited to see leclaire play for us,
i`m excited to see kovy on a line with spezza and heatley.
i`m excited to see if foligno can become a top 6 player and notch in 20-25 goals and not be in the minus.
i`m excited to see if shannon can put in 20.
i`m excited to watch campoli play on the PP.
i`m excited to see if regin matures into what all of you are saying he can be.
i`m excited to see if fisher, kelly, neil and winchester can contribute more offencively.
i`m excited to see if any young player wow`s the diddle out of BM and coach clouston come pre-season.
i`m excited to see if spezza has matured into a man.
i`m excited to see ruuttu... well be ruuttu!
so yeah, i`m so excited and i just can`t hide it... Ahhhhh!
now for the waiting Facepalm

:^^^^: No, no, I know what I'm talking about. To say it's an impossibility is simply not true.
