Fair enough.
The optics of what Heatley has done (demand a trade) does weigh heavily on GMs... I have no doubt about that. They're all worried about the chemistry in their room. So they're gonna factor that in when they put together an offer. Getting fair value for Heatley will be a hard task for Murray given the situation. Add to that our "cap situation" and the GMs are not gonna be giving it up like they should. How long have Wilson and Murray been bartering for? It seems like forever...

Of all the GM's Murray is dealing with, he's got the most leverage with Wilson though imo. Wilson almost has to make a big move. After all, he promised as much after yet another early playoff exit.

Ottawa will not "win" this trade, no matter who he dances with

Agreed... and even with all that, it's still not happening very fast. It goes to show how cautious GMs are being with Heatley, and perhaps how much we may be over-valuing his CURRENT value, given the situation.

Thats why he also needs to get some very decent picks. At least then he has some future buying power on the trade market or in the least draft some kids he wants.

I'd love to see a deal with Minnesota go down. As far as I'm concerned, if we get Brent Burns out of this- we are set up for a VERY good season. Even without Heatley, our offense is okay.

However, if we snag a left winger out of this deal as well- someone of the PMB or Brunette fame... we would be SET UP. We may need to trade Kelly for him- but imagine getting:

Burns and Pierre Marc Bouchard + Future considerations
for
Heatley + Kelly

Brunette/PMB-Spezza-Kovalev
Foligno - Fisher - Alfredsson
Donovan- Regin- Shannon
Ruutu - Bass - Neil
Winchester

Burns - Kuba
Phillips - Volchenkov
Campoli - Lee
Picard
Smith

Leclaire
Elliott

Not to mention how much Minnesota improves up front (which they need), and are still relatively safe at the back end with Zidlicky, Zanon, Johnsson, Cuma, etc.

New update from Sens Chirp. Sounds like Murray has had enough. He has had more patience than most of us. :^^^^:

"(UPDATE-2:02 PM)- A
little more on this apparent deadline. Indications are that this really
is a hard deadline for any team interested in trading for Heatley. Murray will apparently not consider any offers for Dany after that day and will begin preparations for a season with Dany Heatley in his line up. This has gone on long enough and the Senators need to know what direction they are headed

If any interested GM's are reading this (Doug Wilson, I know you're out there) you better step up your offers now!"

In order to get that, we need to deal with a team that has quite a bit of cap room...

he thinks Wilson is reading his blog, wow Chirp, I know we read you, but I am pretty certain GM's are not, much rather Wilson and Murray are hamming it up on facebook between playing hatchlings and mob wars. it could be happening. Ahhhhh!

Deadline shmeadline... if a sweet offer is tabled later... it will happen.

The "hard" deadline could be directed toward both the GM's and the Heatley camp. Murray is pretty much saying to Heatley, "you have one more day decide; Ottawa, Edmonton, or Buffalo" Take it or leave it! You want out, here are your options. Beggars can't be choosers, Dany.

I think the deadline doesn't really mean anything other than to get more offers. Murray won't stop accepting or listening to offers next week. Whatever he says he does NOT want Heatley back on the team.

Love to pressure Heatley into going to Buffalo

In any case, there is no team that has tabled a respectable offer anyway. I think it's becoming more and more evident that Heatley is returning and the damage control should begin to start any time now.

Welcome...to one of the most potent, devastating, sexy offenses in the league.

The run and gun, kill you on the PP, pillage you even strength Sens are back.

Our D is suspect of course, but our forwards are awesome.

Ahhhhh!

I love it. Ahhhhh!

Also, they have already started the PR for Heatley returning. It is a foregone conclusion that Heatley will start the year with the Ottawa Senators.

I can see another 15-2 start. Our opening schedule is weak.

That is why Murray will not trade him now. When the time is right though, after tearing up the regular season, Heatley's value will be back where it belongs as a Top 10 player in the NHL. That is when Murray will pounce. Ahhhhh!

well the thought of Kovy and Heatley on the sides of Spezza must make opposing coaches cringe, If Kovy and Heatley are both on their game at the same time, with one of the premier setup guys in the league at a young age between them, they all could be wracking up big time points, especially on the PP, Kovy owns the PP.

True... but I also think the thought of Heatley coming back to the Sens and being an issue in the room is making Murray cringe equally.

I disagree. Shrug

Murray doesn't care if Heatley is on the team or not. What he cares about is if Heatley is to be traded, he wants the best return possible to make the Sens better now and in the future. If he can't get that, Heatley makes this team better now. He will deal with the future at the trade deadline.

I have been saying this for the whole week I have been here, more silently than this but still. Prepare yourselves for Heatley on opening night, he will be wearing #15 for the Ottawa Senators. :___:

I couldn't be happier. :##: DancingBanana

a very excellent point indeed, on the other side of the coin, I think Heatley is not liking the thought of having to face the music in the Sens locker room after everything has gone down this way. Murray like you said is cringing because Heatley could possibly come in and try to ruin the young players we have coming up the pipeline.
