The Heatley Saga: What's in store in the next 30 days?

UPDATE 6:26 PM)- Dismissed by yours truly early last week I'm now hearing that the Vancouver Canucks may be gearing up for a pitch for Dany Heatley. As recently as last week I was told they were not going to be a factor but apparently that has changed.

Got an email earlier today that indicated the Canucks may be preparing an offer in the next couple of days. Sorry to drag you into this Canuck Fans!

That would be giving to much credit to bloggers though. That would mean that these sites actually have connections to the Sens (either directly or indirectly) and I don't believe that for a second.

It seems like soon enough every team in the NHL will be involved in the Heatley sweepstakes!

It'd be interesting to see what would happen if we were to make up a plausible trade (a three-way would be enough to cause others to take notice). I wonder how long it would take for it to be propagated across the net?

One could argue that I just messed it up by suggesting it in the open, but then again, with all the members here who are in the know, and who are appropriately connected, who is to say that what is put out isn't real either?

Someone is flooding the world with these rumours... creating quite a buzz... something must be up.

Don't read too much into all these rumours. I have no doubt that many teams are looking at Heatley but as of right now all we KNOW for sure is:

Edmonton made an offer.

SJ seems to have made an offer.

NYR held serious talks prior to July 1st.

Many, many teams are interested but have not made an actual offer.

I imagine the PHI/VAN/BUF/MIN, etc... rumours are true to the extent they have called Murray, but without an offer it means nothing.

see that's where i think there's a problem. if it was just these teams calling murray then noone would hear about it cuz murray wouldn't say a word and the other GM's would also never say anything.... so really, if other teams are mentioned it's either entirely fabricated(by murray to leak out leaks, or by the media, bloggers, baffoons), or "where there's smoke, there's a fire". seriously, i'm sure along the lines of receiving an offer there must be enough talks with the owners, coaches, and agents that leaks can form. so pick your side where these come from.

Let's say I'm a reporter in Minnesota covering the Wild. I call the GM and ask if he's interested in Heatley. He answers of course we would look at a 50 goal winger in his prime, but it has to fit into what we're trying to accomplish and the financial plan the club has going forward, yada, yada, yada. But of course we're interested.

Reporter writes a blog that Minny has interest in Heatley, 25 Hockey rumours sites do their morning check of blogs across North America (I mean check with their sources), and BINGO we have our rumour.

In this case, you know that at least a couple of agents have to be involved before the fact, due to the NMC/NTCs that are involved.

I wonder whether Murray has tried to ferret out "agent" leaks, and what the political fall-out from that would be?
