Ok now that I understand the logistics of it I have to say I still don't think it was a go to move for Sather the way it was depicted in the Klee article.

It sounds like a desperate strategy and I don't think they were that desperate to get Heatley.

He's not on a 2-way deal. As far as I understand, they'd just assign him to their AHL affiliate and get his salary off the cap. They'd still have to pay him but he'd be one hell of an expensive AHL player. But it would be a PR nightmare for them.

MSG Network has now mentioned this in their weekly Rangers tv show. Guess Kevin was right in mentioning this could happen.

It's an idea that's been bandied about everywhere since Sather gave Redden the contract and the Rags can afford to do it money-wise, but can they afford to do it image-wise?

Thanks for clarifying this for me Rooney. I wasn't sure how that would work.

Is this something that they should do though? That's a really shady thing to do to a player, IMO. They knew what they would be getting when they signed him to that contract. Did they think he would magically be awesome again?

Why did they bother signing him to such a long contract if this is what they were going to do to him?

I don't like Redden as a player, but he's a good guy and doesn't deserve to be treated this way. He never quit on his team, he just isn't too good.
