I have to agree with asq2 about Penner. There has to be something else involved within this package.

I think you get Penner under our training regime and he will get back to the way he was in Anaheim. Plus remember, he ate us alive in the Cup final. There's still room for a UFA signing too, if need be:

I'll just be glad that Heatley is gone and this is finally over.

I would prefer Cogliano straight up for Heatley.

Speklund is saying Heatley already turned down a deal two days ago. I find that a little hard to believe though.

Anyway, my uncle in Edmonton knows a lot of people, told me earlier this hour, he heard he's going to waive. I say this is done, let's just move on and say we're no longer a 1 line team.

You guys need to chill out... This package isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. I'm not a fan of Smid and I don't like that he was part of the package, but I also don't know a whole lot about him other than a few random games here and there.

Cogliano isn't quite the centerpiece I had in mind, but he's a pretty solid acquisition, nonetheless.

As for Penner, I've been saying for a while that he's a player we could use here and actually see him have some success. I'm convinced a lot of you will be pleasantly surprised with the end result of this trade.

All in all, this trade continues to add to our depth, gets rid of a headache, and gives us greater room to maneuvre in the free agent market.

This is a win...even if it isn't a slam dunk. Cheer up and enjoy the fact that this debacle finally has a resolution.

I don't understand if old broken down Pronger can amass a crazy deal, WTF Murray???

May I just be so bald as to ask why we needed Smid? Why I ask. Was it that necessary to pick up another shutdown D-man who's not a top 4? I'm curious, because by my calculations we now had 78 of those.

There's cap shavings all across the board. We have too many players in every position being counted into that cap hit.... In reality, our cap hit is not what it appears.
