Yeah, this season is going to be a disaster for Ottawa I think. Leclaire and Elliott will keep us competitve but other than that, Alfi is another year older, our offense may be absolutly none exsistant next year, and Spezza still hasnt shown he can carry a team.

It's not looking good for Ottawa.

I think a healthy Otawa is more competitive than anyone can imagine. I think the Sens only played something like 2 games last season with a full healthy roster.

Also, the Sens, despite the debacle that was the 2008-09 season finished a meager 10 points out of the playoffs with a solid amount of teams finishing ahead of us either having stayed the same or even in some cases regressed in terms of the team's quality.

I don't think it's a push to say with a healthy defense and healthy goaltending tandem that the Sens could shave off about 30-40 goals against next season which puts us in very exclusive defensive company in the league.

This Campbell talk is ridiculous. That is one of the worst contracts in the NHL. It may not have made the top-10 list (?) but it is Diddle dreadful from a long-term perspective. No Diddle thank you. I'll take Drury, Jokinen, Marleau, etc. etc. long before I take Campbell.

The funny thing is that might not be the case. Any trade involving Heatley is going to include at least a 30+ goal scorer, if Mike Fisher can return to form and provide 20+ goals along with Foligno and Shannon pushing close to a 20+ goal mark each, Spezza and Alfredsson being good potentially for 30+ each. I think you might be very surprised at how the Sens can get the job done next season.

And that's assuming you only get one top 6 forward in a Heatley trade.

Not that I don't believe it, but everybody said the exact same thing last year, vermette will put 25, fisher 20+, spezza will step up, etc.

Yup, thats exactly it. Those 3 will fill a way bigger hole for a short while as opposed to a rediculous term that Campbell has. If the deal is made with Chicago though, Campbell is coming back, make no mistake.

The Sens are going to have to make a serious consession to get a decent deal done. It might even be Gomez coming back from NYR at this point. For the Sens to get the best possible deal they may very well have to take someone like that from NYR.

Heatley put The Sens in a really shiitty position. At this point I dont see how The Sens cant take back a bad contract... not a bad player, just a bad contract. Really gonna have to use the glass is 1/2 full approch at this point.

As for next year, I dont think there is a bigger question mark of a team then The Sens. SOOO many if's, and's, or but's. Really going to have to let the season play out because it can go either way. Honestly, they way things are going I can actually see how we can finish in the bottom 5 of the league. This is tough trucking for Murray right now.

I'm worried that if Murray cannot clear Heatley's contract off the books, we may be looking at an uneventful FA season. I do not feel confident with the present team so far...especially with Heater out of the line-up. (Holdout) Why not Heatley straight up for Burns?

I know what you're saying. I posted a "preview" myself that was so far off the mark it wasn't funny. That said, a great number of players hadsub-standard seasons: Heatley, Alfredsson, Fisher, Vermette, Kelly, Neil -- pretty much the entire team (Spezza went from 34 down to 32, hardly anything to sound the alarm over; the drop off in his assits came orimarily fromAlfredsson dropping 16 from his previous goal total).

Most people agree that the lack of a good puck mover, combined with Hartsburg's defensive strategy were the primary reasons for the drop off in scoring. There is very good reason to believe (backed up by the production in the last 30 games of the season) that the Sens' game will rebound in the up-coming season.

We'll see, but I cant see The Sens scoring a lot of goals with Vermette now gone and Heatley on the way out. That's 75 goals from 2006/07. Who have we brought in to replace those 2? Leclaire thus far... ouch.

If Heatley is in Ottawa after July 1, Ottawa's season is shot. Over before it begins.

We should all be prepared for that.  BM stated he wouldn't be trading him after July 1st.  We need to be prepared for management to take a stance here even if it means compromising this season.  Problem is, the longer Heatley goes without playing, I'm thinking the lower his value gets.  Teams aren't happy with his spoiled little boy act...that won't change then you can add on that he's not even playing...no surprise if he's left off the olympic team either.  By trade deadline, only way we get anything of value back is if Heatley mans up....don't see it happening.

Heatley wont sit out with The Olympics coming. Call that douche bags bluff.

If Heatley reports to camp and tears it up, gets onto the Olympic team, then you trade him. Being on that team will be nothing but a positive for Ottawa.

No way Heatley sits out an Olympic year, no shot what so ever. Ottawa has that on their side.

If heatley is smart enough to realize if he doesnt play the longer it will be before he gets traded he may have to suck it up for a while and get traded later

Heatley will literally ruin his career if he sits out. Not only would he be turning his back on The Sens (which he already has) he will be turning his back on Canada.

Maybe he goes and plays for Germany...

MONTREAL — If the Canadiens can’t swing a deal for Tampa C Vincent Lecavalier, Flyers C Daniel Briere could be the prize behind door No. 2.
While Flyers GM Paul Holmgren didn’t get any bites as he shopped around his high-priced centre at the draft, it doesn’t mean he struck out.
Habs GM Bob Gainey could turn his attention to landing Briere, if his bid for Lecavalier fails.
Sources say the Flyers would also like to trade W Simon Gagne.

now if we wanted to have a three way deal, i would love to see him in a sens uni. plus he's a small cap hit at 5mill and some... edmonton might still want heatley and maybe the flyers would accept what we didn't want out of the deal? maybe win a pick or prospect out of it?

what's there not to like? we'd be back to having one of the best line in the NHL... minus the 2 million and a selfish sc**bag.

Since 2006/07? We brought in Foligno and Shannon and (maybe) Regin, while losing Heatley, Vermette and Neil.

Obviously our salvation is not going to come from the forward ranks, but with a more mobile defense I can see Foligno and Shannon getting close to 20 apiece, and Regin should get 15. That's still 25-30 goals short, but add another 5-10 for whoever moves up to the top line. For example, if Fisher plays wing on the top line I expect him to get 25-30 goals. If it's Foligno, I expect 25. and so on. Obviously if we get a top-six forward (for example, Howie suggests poicking up Lang -- why not) then we will improve on the second or third line (not having to move anyone up).

We're still probably 20-25 goals short, but with better goaltending and better team defense that can be overcome.

We'll be an average team, but I believe making the playoffs is not too much of a stretch. Of course once we get there, we're not going to get very far, but still, good experience for the new kids.
