I can't say I'm happy. I was really, really hoping to get another pick this year. Even more so, I was really hoping to have this done by yesterday. Today my kid was in soccer academy and the kids there were doing a scrimmage, yelling out things like "Spezza, passes to Heatley. He shoots, scooooores!" I almost said something that would have gotten me uninvited from the sidelines. When will this be over??!

I get the impression that Murray wants to stay away from trading for or drafting russians. I'd be very surprised if you see a Russian born player in any deal for Heatley.

"Fletcher wasn't able to fill any immediate holes this weekend. He was in a ton of trades, but as was proven by the crickets this weekend, significant trades are next to impossible. Still, Fletcher remains in the mix on Dany Heatley trade talks -- if the Ottawa Senators would just stop asking for defenseman Brent Burns."

I don't think he's going anywhere and if he doesn't report, then all the free agents will be gone too. Heatley will screw us even harder yet. I was a little surprised to hear he'd give up $8 million and not report though.

Murray is going to have to ask for a roster player, pick, and prospect, like everyone on the planet has said, predicted, and obviously thinks Heatley is worth.

Getting a future (maybe current) number 1 stud back for Heatley will not happen. Teams are trying to get over the top getting Heatley, not looking for one player to sell jersey's. Everyone in he city would be happy with a first, prospect, and player, it doesnt have to be Gretzky coming back.

If Heatley isnt gone by July 1, no shot anyone signs here, zero. Who would want to come into Ottawa when it an absolute mess? No one will.

Murray has to go with potential here, its the only way this trade will happen, and its the only thing Murray can hope for and that's for some guys to turn out. Heatley has forced Ottawa to go into a rebuild, we still have pieces that make us competitive, but it's going to be a few years of frustration and losing.

If Ottawa wants to keep its head above water they are going to have to trade for a guy like Drury (dont care what his salary is). There is no one there to support Spezza and Alfi now, no one to really chip in, and Spezza will then be ran out of town as well. Drury solves a lot of problems and is worth the salary to Ottawa to avoid those situations while other guys can develope with a lot less pressure on them. 7 million for 3 years may very well be worth it to The Sens.

Hopefully Murray can pull something like that with NYR, but if Sather is that stupid that he actually offered Zherdev and Rosival for Heatley, they someone should seriously question that man's common sense... oh wait.

Ottawa should just deal Heatley for a pick(s), high end, offensive prospects, and a bad salary that can somewhat help Ottawa. NYR is def the best place for Heatley and a return trade with Ottawa, solves a lot of problems and prevents a lot of headachs.

I've always wondered what trade negotiations actually sound like between GMs...I wonder how candid they are with each other.

Jokinen is another guy Ottawa should be looking at.

I've also heard the Ottawa-Chicago talks are centering around Ottawa taking Brian Campbell back.

I'd just like to say, of all the big money contracts out there, I'd probably be the most fine with his being the one to come back, if the rest of the return is good as well.

Something like Campbell, Versteeg, Skille and a 2010 first for Heatley and Kelly/Schubert.

I would be 100% be asking for Beech. No way Im dealing with Chicago and Beech isnt the prospect Im taking back. He might be a head case but he is an NHLer.

Campbell is probably the worst contract out of everyone to take back there... who knows though, Ottawa is going to have to make some concessions to say the least. The perfect deal is not possible.

Amen brother!

I would take Campbell and the Versteeg straight up for Heatley.

Are you getting equal value in return....no. Are you "spreading the wealth" definitely!

Campbell is a smooth one, albeit likely not worth 7 something per year. But now you have big money invested on the blue line, instead of just one gargantuan line up front.

I like Versteeg as well, although is is an RFA, so will be needing a raise this summer.

N4L is absolutely right. If Heatley is not moved, it really chokes the life out of this team, and NO ONE will want to sign here. Murray, time to check reality at the door and take the Chicago deal
