Just got off the phone with Heatley's agent, J.P. Barry Here's the deal:

Oilers GM Steve Tambellini and President of Hockey Operations Kevin Lowe are in Kelowna now, meeting with Heatley. Turns out owner Daryl Katz did not make the trip, but both Tambellini and Lowe have ties with Heatley through Hockey Canada.

Barry is upset because, in demanding a trade from the Senators, he feels Sens GM Bryan Murray has not worked hard enough to present his client with trade options. The Oilers deal is the only real trade that Murray has cobbled together, and that was foisted upon Heatley on Tuesday night, with a perceived deadline of midnight last night for the $4 million bonus due Heatley.

"Now, he's back in that same pressure situation," Barry said of his client. "Edmonton is the only option that has been presented to us, and you can't tell that there aren't more.

"Dany is going to sit down with Steve and Kevin. He has an open mind. They're both great people. And then he'll have to decide."

Decide one of three things: Waive his no-trade, and go to Edmonton; refuse to waive, and remain Ottawa property, or ask for more time. Stay tuned.

Murray didn't try hard enough? Haha... My best guess at this point is that he turns down the trade and requests more time.

Can anyone answer this....if Heatley decides to remain a Sen until his bonus kicks in and then accepts a deal to Edmo, does the asking price go up?

I hope so man ... I hope so; maybe if he goes to Edmonton later, the league will say Edmonton must pay the (NOT BONUS) salary advance because they had the deal in place already.

Heatley and his agents are off their meds I guess. Didn't try hard enough to present more trade options? Yeah, I suppose we could trade him elsewhere if we don't want any talent coming back the other way.

How about to the Sharks for Marleau? Does that make you feel better Dany?

Of course. I'll tell you this, If Melnyk doesn`t have any problems paying that 4 Million (which would mean he is the richest man on the planet), we may lookt at Gagner instead of Cogliano and Eberle instead of Smid.

I guess LA is starting to feel the pressure for not making enough of a splash today. Hello Murray?

I hope so. FingersCrossed

Murray's most recent statements claim that the price will go up and because of this he thinks a deal is even less likely achieved. It's also been speculated that the price may remain the same but the trading partner would have to be willing to take a bad contract off of Ottawa's hands. eg/ Smith

What's the point? Most of the "high end" FAs are spoken for. (Thanks for answering my question btw.)

It's rumoured that LA's hot for Kovalev. True or not I don't get the impression that they want anything to do with Heatley. At least not enough to outbid Edmonton.

I know it's easy for us to say hold on to him but it is $4,000,000.00 due in less than an hour. If someone wants to cut Melnyk a cheque I'm sure he would wait out a better offer.

I may be wrong but I have a feeling that teams can not talk to the sens about heatley as long as the "situation is frozen" ...

No problem. Even though they're too late to pick up a good FA to fill up that extra cap space it might be nice to have that space down the road. Like mentioned, I believe it was only speculation so it could very well mean the package itself must be beefed up. God, I hope so.

There's a reason to allow the exchange of $$$ as part of player trades if there was ever one ... Smile
