I can't boo him, because I dont live in Ottawa (until University), but there's more than enough people who will give him a piece of their minds.

My best guesses would be Winchester or Lee, as I have them both on Facebook. I'm not aware of any others that are active on the internet.

I been watching for specific Elliott comments since I came here and have been very vocal on spelling his name right for a reason.

Brian is happy with what he reads...about him.

Everything else...not so much. He is good about it though...sort of.

On a list of impossible tasks, garnering sympathy for a millionaire malcontent hockey player like Dany Heatley ranks up there somewhere between beating Usain Bolt in a footrace and inventing cold fusion.

Yet it was one self-described Heatley family friend Tom Molloy attempted to undertake yesterday. His comments are featured in a column today by the Citizen's Wayne Scanlan. Here are a few quotes to give you an idea of where Molloy's head is at:

— "Dany's parents (Murray and Karin) dropped over to our place the other day. They said, 'Everyone is crucifying Dany.' His mother is very upset. And the attacks are all personal stuff, about his character. Nobody mentions that this is a guy who gives up a month of his summer every year to play for Team Canada."

— "I can't express how disappointed I am in the press and hockey fans concerning Dany Heatley's request to be traded. I was talking with his parents ... and they can't believe the awful things that people are saying about Dany. He simply wants to play on a team that believes in his abilities."

— "The new coach (Cory Clouston) has decided that Dany is a second- or third-line player, uses him on the second power play and plays him 14 minutes a game. Dany had many closed-door conversations with him and was told that the situation would improve, but it didn't in the two months they were together."

Do you feel bad yet? If you're like the dozens of infuriated fans posting responses at the bottom of that story, it's likely Molloy's quotes sound a lot like the world's smallest violin playing just for Dany.

Without question, this whole brouhaha has to be difficult on those who know and love Heatley as a friend, son, brother, etc. The problem is that fans who feel Heatley has abondoned their team out of selfishness don't see the nice guy who attended Jason Spezza's bachelor party.

Their image is of an evil millionaire cruising around his Okanagan compound in a gold boat, staring at his diamond-encrusted iPhone and praying for trade news. That he can be unhappy while cashing a $4 million cheque this week for playing Canada's favourite game is particuarly galling to those who lost their jobs when the economy's engines flamed out.

Is this an accurate picture of Dany Heatley? Of course not. But right now, the only guy who can change that image is Dany Heatley. When his proxies, whether they be family friends or agents or whatever speak for him, it looks cowardly. It sends the message that, not only is Heatley willing to sell out his team, he can't even face the backlash himself.

Here is a free piece of advice: if the Heatley camp is worried about the sniper's image, they should urge him to say something, anything, publicly. It won't pacify angy fans, but at least he'll get his side of the story out.

If that isn't important to them, they should just say nothing. Demanding a trade because of ice time from a team that committed $45 million to you just doesn't play well in the real world, no matter how you frame it.

There was some chatter about it yes. It's laughable that someone can defend Heatley and expect any of us to give him any sympathy without any sort of information as to WHY he wants out.
