From Dan Tencer 630 CHED in Edmonton:

Source: Meeting went OK with the Oilers. It's more about Heatley trying put the screws to Ottawa.

this is fracked1 something bad is gonna come out of this... heatley will not get his way. BM be strong, be strong. like it's been mentioned play him 6 minutes a game and see how he likes it.
seriously what has ottawa really done to deserve this! we pulled that Wang slacker out of his deathboat in atlanta, we pyed him the contract he wanted and "oh no" we cut his ice time whe he slacked on the ice cuz eyesuck just waited by the net to put a few in all season... man i hate him soo much i hope he never plays in the NHL ever again!

is ther any rules in the NHLPA that says you can't frack your past team to dath like that? this is gonna set precedent. all these good natured NMC will not ever happen again cuz this guy thinks he's god... well you listen to me cyclop! you just fracked everyone of your fellow players on this.

Is there any reason to trade him anymore? Time for Murray and Melnyk to play hardball. Keep him in Ottawa, if he refuses to play, suspend him and sue him for the money we paid him. And then make him beg you to trade him to any team we want.

Although that's what my more pessimistic side felt was going on, last night, while the whole ordeal was going on, Dan Tencer said the deal was 100% dead.

And video tape the begging and the crying... I'd pay good money to see that! They could probably make the $4M back in the sales of that tape alone!!!

McKenzie thinks this is just the beginning and that this could become downright ugly.

These two paragraphs are the ones I really focused on.

The Senators, meanwhile, angrily counter that no other team in the NHL
showed the interest that Edmonton did and now that the acquisition
price is likely to be higher because of the Sens will feel the need to
recoup some or all of the $4 million payout, there's even less of a
chance of another team stepping up to the plate.

So the prevailing thought is that, at some point, the Senators will
have to cut their losses and perhaps make an inferior deal (to
Edmonton's offer) that Heatley would find acceptable, just to rid
themselves of their problem
. That, though, presumes that the Senators'
ownership and management are more concerned about practicality than
revenge or making an example of Heatley.

Screw Heatley. Ottawa would have my full support in keeping the douchebag for another year, playing him 4-6 minutes a night on the 4th line and screwing him out of a chance to play for Canada at the Olympics.

If Heatley wants to think he runs the show, Murray would have my full support in doing whatever it took to show him otherwise.

I agree, Heatley needs to be taught how things work in the real world instead of his little fantasy land.

I hope management sticks it to him just like he did to them. Anything goes at this point which should make it a very interesting summer.

This is incredible.

I still think at the end of the day that we'll get a better package for Heatley if we let teams simmer in their UFA losses.

Furthermore, I couldn't give a rat's arse about the 4 million. Too bad Melnyk, you had to pay him his salary, that's life. Now, instead of us crying, we should try our best to find a good deal. It's out there. Some team is panicking right now.

Who wants Heatley after all of this?

I see it the way McKenzie sees it in his article. We are stuck dealing with a limited number of teams and those teams aren't very keen on getting Heatley. It may come down to Murray accepting a deal even worse then the Oilers deal from one of the teams Heatley wants to go to.

I dunno. I still think a team like LA or even Minny might make a play for him. Maybe even SJ. There are teams that have stayed the status quo (essentially) and haven't gotten better, while everyone else around them has added players.

At some point Plan D starts looking pretty good. And that Plan D is Heatley. cool)

Well, we can only hope that's the case.

But there is a good chance this could become an all out war between management and Healtey's camp. The final say always comes down to Heatley so he could just keep rejecting deals until he gets traded to a team he likes. I'd like to think the best will happen but the way things have gone so far tells me things will not go smoothly and this is only the beginning of a long summer.

Yeah...I guess there's a big part of me that doesn't buy that a team will get desperate, but it certainly could be an all out war.

I wonder if any calls have been made to Alfie, Phillips, Fisher, and even Spezza.

Murray might just want to check with them to see how they would deal with Heater still being on the roster for training camp. Can't imagine that he'd get the same "respect" as other veterans when it came to a full contact scrimmage.

Come to think of it, the extra money for Neil might have been worth it to make sure that he is part of the welcoming party at camp in Sept.

I vote for keeping Dany until he is so desparate to leave that he either sits out or plays absolutely lights out. I'd be willing to accept a poor showing in the standings as the entertainment value would come from watching that A-hole squirm and sweat, and maybe self-destruct.
