I'm guessing Picard is the likely choice.

I don't know how willing BM is to trade Dono after last off-season when Dono came to BM and asked him if he could stay at a discount. I don't know the reasons behind it, but I think BM is a fairly sentimental guy.

Also, Bass isn't on a 1-way.

I know it's kinda (really) mean, but I'm looking forward to some injuries (Kelly, Donovan...) to see the kids play.

ah my bad on Bass, he can go to the minors if he doesn't impress then. ugh, decisions decisions when it comes to the others, Dono does everything that is expected of him and is a great guy to have around the young kids, so expect Murray keeps him in the fold as well.

hmm very interesting considering how many one way contracts we have, guys like Winchester, Bass, and Donovan (if he is signed still), which I just checked cap geek and he still is for this year, makes me wonder if any moves would have to be done to accomodate Zack Attack making it, on D, well things are the same, Karlsson makes it, so who's spot does he take? Lee's, Picard's, or Campoli's?

I always figured that Regin would make it and Donovan would sit, but in reality, there are a few small moves to make before we can get some of this young talent into the lineup.

It's all bull$hit. Just like the so-called "competition for jobs" last year. I was listening to those shills on the TGOR this morning and laughing at them and their remarks about veterans "looking over their shoulders" and so on.

The exact same nonsense was brought up last year and I laughed then as well.

If you go to capgeek you need only look at the players whose salaries are in black to know who will be in the lineup unless they're traded or waived.

IN reality, this situation is ideal, it creates competition and the best will suit up. If a Regin/Smith plays better than a Donovan/Schubert at camp they will be here.

I don`t think it's the same thing this year. Regin and Smith weren' ready last year, and I'm pretty sure Murray would send Schubert for a 5th rounder like he did for Auld if Regin/Smith lights it up at camp.

I'd agree with that one, Schubie is not working here and maybe some other team will flip us a late round pick for a guy that plays D and F, I am for having Regin or Smith over Schubert any day.

shabbs wrote:Weren't the rumours all about Wilson not letting Michalek be a part of ANY deal?

I've said this before, but it bears repeated:

If Wilson isn't willing to include at least one of Michalek or Clowe (I'm assuming Pavelski and Setoguchi are off limits), then there simply is no deal to be had with SJ. You have to give some to get some, and it's time for Wilson to step up if he wants to get anything done. He is barking up the wrong tree if he thinks we're going to give Heatley away for a handful of salary dumps.

Faced with the alternatives of possibly endangering the team's prospects for this season, or for-sure damaging the team's long-term outlook, I have no doubts about what direction BM will go. I'm guessing he would rather roll the dice, maintain Heatley, and take his chances in terms of whether the team will or will not perform and so cost him his job; rather than lose his job for sure because he gave Heatley away for nothing / burdens. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Rooney, I'm not sure Doug Wilson was ever a serious trading partner in the 'HeatleyStakes'.

The media loves to pump these rumours up, but who knows what discussions were had, and at what level?

The Sharks have done some housecleaning (Roenick, Plihal, Goc, Grier, Erhoff, Lukowich--none of them key assets) and in doing so, sent a message to their current roster that jobs are to be earned.

They have no cap room now to do a deal, and while DH would be a definite addition to the offense, Wilson may simply open with the cards he has.

Taking a glance at CapGeek, in fact, there really isn't any contending team that has the room to take on DH's contract.

(Not to say Mad Mike Gillis might not do something totally off the wall, which he has been known to do...)

So both sides in the Murray-Heatley Showdown sit tight, and do up their chin straps.

Ya gotta wonder though...how DH showing up at camp--presuming he doesn't get moved--will sit with his soon-to-be ex-teammates...and how that affects the club's chemistry.

Imo chemistry will be an issue for like 2 weeks...

I think the proper term is one-way(ish), have to consult Dr. Poo about that one. :^^^^:

I meant two weeks into the regular season Smile Two weeks from now, Heatley will be getting heckled in the parking lot of SBP...by Nick Foligno and Chris Neil...

Seriously though, you remember those last ten games last season? Not fun to watch...and especially not the last one where DH was skating around waving his stick in the air, looking for that 40th goal...and being ignored...

You don't want that kind of disconnect happening again this year.
