Trade Heatley for a top 10 pick + top prospect who's either ready to play in the NHL or very very close.

Go out and sign Jay Bouwmeester to play defense. Go out and sign Steve Sullivan. Make it happen.

Alfredsson - Spezza - Sullivan
Foligno - Fisher - (top prospect)/Shannon
Shannon/Regin - Kelly - Zubov
Winchester/Donovan - Bass - Ruutu

Kuba - Bouwmeester
Campoli - Phillips
Volchenkov - Lee
Picard/Karlsson/Weircioch

Regin is a much beter center than Kelly. I'd move Fisher to wing on the top line, try Regin out as the 2nd line center.

I still think a top 5 pick and an awesome prospect is the way to go, then sign a free agent to replace Heater short term. Braydenn Shenn, Evander Kane or whoever in that top 5 should be ready in 1 or 2 years. We're not going anywhere next year, might as well have the best preparation for the years after.

Murray will get the deal he wants. I would be fine even if we couldnt replace Heatley right away. Top prospect and a 1st, I would be ok with, not extatic, but happy.

Regin's gonna need to take his lumps centering the third line before we bump him up to the top six. I just think any combination of those guys in the top six works out for us.

Compition breeds success, and there is going to be plenty to compete for this year in Ottawa. Now I'm starting to get more excitted and optimistic because no where can players slack off when there will be someone there to take your spot if you dont show up.

Goaltenders, Defense, and Forwards all have to be looking over their shoulder. This is a great situation for Ottawa. Someone will come out of this group next year and turn heads.

I'd preger the Gooch and Vlasic. Marleau has quite a few miles on him, and I really wonder how he'd perform under the spotlight in Ottawa. Not quite the same in San Jose I'd imagine...

how about mikahelik and vlasic

Fine, just don't play Kelly as a center ahead of a guy who went 6 for 7 in his first NHL game. Kelly can play wing.

The reason I had him on the 2nd is because I really, really want Fisher on the wing. We've got Comrie as well (or we may have him) and he plays center as well, but I don't think he's a 2nd line center, especially if we have Shannon on that same line.

That would be nice, for a change.

How much would Erik COle cost for a 1 year deal?

A few scenarios I wouldn't hate to see:

1. Heatley for Nash
2. Heatley to LA for Brown/Frolov + (pick/prospect, pick + prospect)
3. Heatley for Horton + (pick/neg. rights for Bouwmeester, pick + rights, pick + prospect)
4. Heatley to Edmonton for pick(s) and prospects
5. Heatley to SJ for Setoguchi +

Of course, all depends on where Heatley allows himself to go and also depends if Murray only wants to send him West.

Ya, it would. It's what's been missing from Ottawa for a long time.

Duuuuude, there wont be any huge names coming back for Heatley. Nash and Brown no shot man.

In terms of playing in the NHL, yeah, Schenn/Kane could be ready in 1-2 years. In terms of making an impact at all comparable to Heatley?

If ever, you're looking at 5-6 years down the line at least.

Ya, but I dont really think that's important at this point. You are going to be looking 4, 5 years down the line with this deal. Thats when a lot of the young guys may very well be ready to make that huge impact and we will (hopefully) stull have established guys like Spezza, Foligno, Fisher, A train, Leclaire still around.

Heatley has to be used as a rebuilding tool, not to lure another big name.

This Nash talk is ludicrous. Can we please start remembering that Heatley has a NMC?

The only reason Heatley would waive to go to Columbus is to play with Nash and in front of Mason...

One thing I laughed at is TSN's description of Heatley as being "unhappy with his role on the team."

You mean, unhappy with the 4th most ice-time on the team (second amongst all forwards behind Alfredsson)? Unhappy being a mainstay on the first line and on the powerplay? Unhappy with your alternate captaincy? Unhappy with the fact that you were given the C when Alfredsson went down with injury?

:^^^^:

Depends who's top prospect and first it is. LA's? We're laughing: Teubert/Hickey + 5th overall. Atlanta's? We're laughing: Bogosian + 4th overall.
