Yes.

Via John Shannon: "So Glendale Council Approves The Arena deal with Greg Jamison as Manager. Vote was 4-2. Inching closer to Coyotes staying in Glendale."

Mindboggling.

Even funnier is that they city has approved a lease with an owner that can't afford to buy the team.

DONKEY RODEO!!!!

We've not heard the last death cries out of this road kill of a coyote.
This will probably go on for years to come.

Some updates...

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=397980

This caught my eye...

"According to a study commissioned by Glendale, the city would pay Jamison $203 million and bring in $45 million in revenue, leaving a huge gap. The study also calculated what it would cost the city should the Coyotes leave, estimating about $177 million in operating costs for Jobing without an anchor tenant."

So... the lesser of two evils is to keep them here and minimize the damage.

Yeah, that's solid planning.

How many years are left on the lease? Could then not sell it to someone who would move it, but not for the first couple of years. What a mess. Or maybe they could try to actually sell the game instead of trying to give it away.

Do you mean move the arena? What? The cost of the arena is the issue... not having a tenant is a killer... the city owns the arena.

They have a contract to lease it, but for how long? Surely the cost to sever the deal would go down in 2 years?

Not sure what you mean... both the OWNER and OPERATOR are the City of Glendale. In other words, they Cussing own it.

EDIT: this is the core of the issue. they own it. they can't get rid of it. with a tenant, they lose some money, without a tenant, they lose a Dung load more money.

Glendale's best bet would be to bring in a minor league team. That still gives them 40 games of parking and tax revenue without paying a ridiculous management fee.

Regardless, the Goldwater Institute is going to win this. The Coyotes are done for.

The conservative watchdog group Goldwater Institute has filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the Glendale City Council's vote to approve a lease agreement for Jobing.com Arena with a potential buyer of the Phoenix Coyotes.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Maricopa County Superior Court on behalf of Glendale taxpayers Ken Jones and Joe Cobb, claiming last week's vote violated a 2009 court order requiring Glendale to provide all documents in negotiations between the city and a prospective owner to Goldwater in a timely manner.

This will be good Laugh1

interesting to see if it falls thru or not. personally i'm very sceptical of making tax payers pay for a team over a long period of time. it's one thing to fund an arena that is multi purpose but to pay a private party to run it for you to ensure they stay? mmmhhhh Quebec city it is.

It's not such a big deal except there's a law specifically forbidding it in Arizona. Something about "gifting."
