The conservative watchdog group Goldwater Institute has filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the Glendale City Council's vote to approve a lease agreement for Jobing.com Arena with a potential buyer of the Phoenix Coyotes.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Maricopa County Superior Court on behalf of Glendale taxpayers Ken Jones and Joe Cobb, claiming last week's vote violated a 2009 court order requiring Glendale to provide all documents in negotiations between the city and a prospective owner to Goldwater in a timely manner.

This will be good Laugh1
interesting to see if it falls thru or not. personally i'm very sceptical of making tax payers pay for a team over a long period of time. it's one thing to fund an arena that is multi purpose but to pay a private party to run it for you to ensure they stay? mmmhhhh Quebec city it is.

It's not such a big deal except there's a law specifically forbidding it in Arizona. Something about "gifting."

They are never going to be able to sell this team to an owner and keep it in Glendale if this keeps up.

Move 'em and watch the city of Glendale crash and burn...

Big win today for the City of Glendale and the Phoenix Coyotes:

Judge rejected the Goldwater Institute challenge to invalidate the lease agreement.

Doesn't Jamieson still need to find the proper funding?

I just can't believe this deal. Basically the city is paying Jamieson more than the team is worth to operate the stadium for them. Essentially, this deal means that the city will have paid for Jamieson to take ownership of the team by the time the deal is through.

Yeah, that would be the last hurdle I think... the money... kind of a big one. The deal is a strange one. But I guess it's better than no tenant and no team... pretty crazy.

You would think that with this deal in place, Jamieson could find investors. "Look guys, the city has agreed to give me more than the purchase of the team is worth, before we sell even one ticket/parking space/overpriced beer."

Should be an easy pitch no? I mean really, how much would it cost to just lock the damn doors and have a maintenance and groundskeeping crew?

Looks like there may be a delay in signing that lease agreement...

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/local/articles/2012/07/02/20120702glendale-council-candidates-ask-delay-phoenix-coyotes-deal.html

"We are concerned there may not be ample funds to pay everything the lease promises"

Heh heh.

Word is the Jamison group has the money now...

http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2012/07/12/jamison-group-has-money-for-phoenix.html

If that is the case, then this looks to be a done deal as nothing else is in the way...

I still am at a loss that Phoenix doesn't even have an owner and yet years later still has a team, while Atlanta lost their team out of nowhere just based on losing money. They aren't the only team losing money. Surprised they weren't given a little more grace.

It's just an extension of that whole pissing contest with Ballsillie. Bettman is hell bent on proving he was right with other people's money.

Which also makes eliminating the floor that much more beneficial.

If they want to be a floor team and lose all the time they will Cussed just the same. Being a floor team is short changing the fans and dooming the players on the ice to failure.

So if he's $20M short in buying the team I wonder how he's planning on paying Doan ? Monopoly money ?
