I find it really hard to believe that there's any chance of the Sens getting Schneider. Rumours about the Habs getting Matt make so much more sense. They need a PP Q-Back after losing Souray (yeah, a while back) and now Streit; he started his career in Montreal; and Gainey recently said that he's not optimistic about Sundin, so they have room.

Yeah, the Schneider to MTL rumours seem to make the "most" sense these days if Gainey has moved on from getting Sundin. But, if by some magical move of Cap juggling wizardry Murray can make it all work and hold onto Mesz... then I'd be fine with bringing Schneider in for one year. We'd still be light in our secondary scoring... but perhaps a trade deadline pick-up could fix that down the line. Who knows. With what's left in Cap space, addressing ALL our needs now and holding onto our players is next to impossible.

HA HA! No, it's the same "shot" as he has minus the text. It's in honour of Hard Core Logo 2 in the works. I like to keep my Avatars in sync....

Yeah, take a page from my book. The no avatar is so classic, it's practically original.

[I just couldn't figure out how to get an avatar. I suck *sigh*]

Brian Campbell money? More? Its ridiculous. He's still at the stage where he has to prove his worth to this club and start playing some hockey.

He does have to prove his worth but you can see where he is coming from in asking for 4M. There are comparable players out there who make that much. I'd be happy with a one year deal worth 3.5M. If he lives up to expectations then we have no problem giving him more.

$3.5 million for a guy who can't hit the net. To me, we'd be WAY overpaying him at that price.

Murray doesn't work off comparables BTW.

I'd be interested to know who these comparables are that I keep hearing about.

There are a couple of things I don't like about that statement. First, it makes a claim to insider's knowledge of Murray's negotiating tactics, and I don't know that any of us here can safely make that claim. Second, I don't see how you can avoid comparables: player values are unfortunately determined by the market, and the market is based on what everyone else is paying for players with similar stats and who perform a similar role on a team. There's a difference, I know, with Mesz's case in that he's not a UFA, but the principle is pretty much the same. With the new CBA, you don't just pay for past performance, but expected future performance. Was Erik Johnson worth almost $4 mil last year, his rookie year when he played on the bottom D pairing with limited ice time? Hell no. But he will be soon, and that's why STL agreed to pay him so much. We might not like it, but that's where we are right now in the new NHL.

You're right about Mesz's net-hitting woes, tho'. It's been a problem with him for a while now, as it was with Corvo.

As it seems to be with everybody in this team. No wonder our powerplay was so brutal, 70% of our pp shots never make it to the net.

Matt Carle, a little less than $3.5 / 3 yrs, is the one most people point to. The new deal with Vlasic isn't a bad one either, although he is admittedly a much different player than Mesz.

Too bad for us, I suppose. The Matt Carle contract from my point of view is a bad contract. Not so bad that it forces your team into a corner, but that is too much money for him in my opinion. All I see is one above average season for him, amidst two other seasons of mediocrity. Hardly worth 3.5 million, but if that's what the Meszaros camp is using as a comparable, then Diddle it all, damnit.

It's a good thing that he has no arbitration rights. I guess San Jose didn't learn after teh stupid Carle contract eh?

I do think long term at around 3 - 3.5 per is something I can handle, but if it's a 1 year term, then I wouldn't pay him over $2.

That's true but it's not just Meszaros's fault. The real problem is that our power play was far too stationary and the defense had no way to get the puck to the net. Quick puck movement opens up lanes for defense to shoot through. That's something the power play didn't do last year.
