What's the subject?

The British novel circa the late 18th and early 19th centuries -- specifically, in the context of the French Revolution debates in England.

Yep, that's pretty specific. I didn't even know they debated the French Revolution in England. But now that I think of it, how could they not? I'll bet the royal family and all the various levels of the aristocracy were very keen on the outcome of these debates. I wonder if some of them had their bags packed, just in case.

What's surprising, though, is that I don't remember any Monty Python sketches on the topic.

I don't want to turn the thread into a soapbox for my thesis, but... hell yeah, the French Revolution raised all kinds of serious anxieties, and fueled all kinds of reformist movements, in Britain in the 1790s and after. Publicly trying and executing the king of one of the oldest and strongest of European countries sent shockwaves around the world, and it's not an overstatement to say that it (along with the US rev) is perhaps one of the most important dates in the overthrown of monarchical systems of government (and all that they entail) and the ascendancy of democracy (and its handmaiden, capitalism) as we now know it.

If you're seriously interested in the subject, one way to start learning more would be to just to do Wiki searches on people like Edmund Burke, Thomas Paine, William Godwin, and Mary Wollstonecraft, and read about their activities in the 1790s.

I googled "french revolution debate england" earlier and saw lots (not Anna Kournikova "lots" but lots, none the less). In a little while yours will be added to the list. I take it the publisher is aiming to use this as a textbook for university lit courses?

Other than a few posts here ( :KJK: ), I can't think of anything I've ever written 275 pages on...

Very impressive, and a formidable read, I'd assume.

Sorry for locking this but I felt this thread really isn't a relevant topic anymore.
