NEELY wrote:Ev is right when he says Stone isn't a steal, he isn't even close to being in The NHL at this point. Was it a good draft pick in the 6th round? One that clearly was scouted out by The Sens? A pick that has the potential to be along the lines of a Chris Neil type? Yes it was.

It's a player to watch and perhaps get excited about and it could end up being a steal but relax a little. The Murray's tend to go after guys who were supposed to be higher draft picks but get injured and have their season's shortened, that's what Stone was. We'll see if he gets a WJC tryout next year and makes the team... perhaps he could be next years Foligno.

That was my exact comparison before lol.

It was definitely a very nice pick for the 6th round.

i'm sad we only have 4 CHL prospects to be honest.

CHL prospects for the most part are picked in the 1st and 2nd rounds... other thna that, it's smarter to go with SEL, Jr A tier II and NCAA players because they have 3, 4 years to mature before getting to the pro's. Unless you are elite talent or are too good to pass up on, it's the development that matters for young men.

True. I'd like to see some Finnish players drafted as well, maybe with a late pick. Similar to the SEL, maybe a bit behind in terms of strength of competition though.

Did you compare Stone's potential to Chris Neil? I'm tired so I may be misconstruing what you wrote.

I said before that he will be a Chris Neil type player if he ever makes the NHL. A 3rd liner who hits and fights, doesn't skate too well. Chris Neil used to score in junior too.

Neil's best was a 26 goal, 72 point campaign. I don't think they're quite in the same class. Stone put up 37/106 this year.

Yeah, he's got to make it first, but he's turned his game into something to watch closely and he was taken with a low risk/high reward pick. We'll see how it works out, nice start though.

Braydenn Schenn played 2 games in Brandon this year lol. And Glennie and Stone are not even on the same line from what the Brandon fans have told...
Stone is the team's MVP and he's got a ridiculous goal scoring ability. If you guys see Chris NEil in this video, I'd like to know what you guys are smoking Laugh1
To me he's more like an Alex Burrows with worse skating.

Yeah, he has to work very hard on his skating this summer. If he can improve that - and he can - he's on the right track.

All you have is that video basically...we know nothing else about him other than hearsay. I do not want to overhype prospects. Videos don't show their negatives and don't show their bad skating.

Arron Asham was a ridiculous goal scorer in junior as well. Now he's a 3rd line role player.

Also, in the playoffs, i.e crunch time, Stone scored 3 goals in 33 games.

I am not saying he's gonna translate that to the NHL, maybe he doesn't even play a single game, but comparing his style to Chris Neil is so wrong. Chris Neil doesn't have that shot and is not a shoot first type of player.

Laugh1 Ya, and he had 10 pts (1/9) in 6 games in the playoffs this year. You like to use your stats strategically, eh?

He's advancing through the ranks of prospects for us though, he might never set foot in the NHL, but right now he's got to be in the top 20 or even top 15 prospects for Ottawa with a HUGE summer coming up for him to work on his skating. I agree, we shouldn't overhype the prospects, but this is a tremendous achievement already for Stone who as just picked as a 6th rounder. I don't see him falling off the tracks, I can see him being a good pro - it's whether he can work on his skating enough to make the NHL - which is a big question right now.

Gems come out of nowhere sometimes, Jamie Benn is a 6th rounder I think, so why not? In the last 7 years it never happened to Ottawa, might be our time this time.

Yeah exactly. It can happen at any time to any team, why not us?
