Signing him would be a really bad move.

Can't live in a perpetual rebuild. Plus we have a week prospect pool having wasted our last 3 1st rd picks

I agree, it would have been better to sign him.
But according to garrioch, he wasn’t gonna sign an extension. Although garrioch is a mouth piece and could just be softening the blow

He likely only waived for Florida so they got what they could. Now on to Kubalik (6th rd pick), Kastelic (5th rd pick) and Chych (probably not)

I think there could be some interest in Kastelic -- big/strong, good at face offs, cheaper than dirt. Could be useful as a "taxi squad" member for a team hoping to go deep.

I don't see how anyone would want Kubalik, even with salary retained. We only have one retention slot left and we should use it to get a better return for Chychrun.

In the off-season I'm hoping they will reveal that Korpisalo had some nagging injury the whole year and someone will take a chance on him in the summer with salary retained. If not, I think they have to waive him and buy him out.

We need veterans but his game and skating is declining and his shot isn’t elite anymore. Would be dumb to sign him to anything more than another one year

I could see Detroit taking a shot at him for insular depth. Throw a 6th round pick for him.

He’s definitely not the Tarasenko of yesteryears but he’s still a decent top 6 and has shown he could provide secondary scoring from the third line if teamed up with a decent C.
He’s also not a one dimensional player as some were suggesting.
3 years might have been too much but if the cap hit wasn’t too bad. I’d have taken him back.

He’s more of a tweener now but I had zero issues with the signing. I thought it was a great move. But I could see him declining quick and he’s already won a cup so his only motivation now is money most likely. He’s not one dimensional but not very good defensively and was sheltered. I think we need more physical heavy players overall. Somebody like a Lawson crouse

I hate vegas

So let me get this straight. We only got a 3rd and conditional 4th at the trade deadline. I guess Staios is hoping for better deals at the draft or later in the summer.

Meanwhile I'll be rooting for Vegas to be bounced in the 1st round.

Senators claimed Boris Katchouk. The 4th line re-build has started.

Yeah the nhl sucks. It’s not a watchable product anymore.

Teams that have a high chance of winning the cup:
Florida, strong on all areas.
Vegas, goaltending is ok but so strong everywhere else.
Winnipeg, fly under the radar, solid team all around with outstanding goaltending.
The avs. Depth everywhere. Hard as hell to play against.

Teams that could go far but failed to address certain needs that will likely be their downfall:
oilers, shaky goaltending.
Carolina, same reason.
Dallas, lack some depth in the forward group. Dark horse to go further tho.
NYR, lacks depth on defence and forward groups has a lot of unknowns.

Toronto isn’t likely to make it past the first round again. Which is amazing.

It's going to look so bad when we trade Mark Stone for a player we can't even trade with RFA rights.
I'm actually okay with how Staios handled the deadline. Sounds lie he used it as an opportunity to research vs just getting whatever he can for his players.

All I know is:
1) One of Chych or Chabot will be moved in the off-season
2) Kubalik and Brann won't be back
3) Batherson is probably gone
4) We're heading into the off-season with at least $13M in cap space excluding the $5M that the cap is expected to go up.
5) We're also probably going to cut ties with Hamonic, Kastelic and MacEwen adding even more money.
6) I can easily see us with a brand new team next season and using our Boston/Detroit 1st to bring someone in at the draft. Even then, I think Emery or Mews may be available and I'd be happy drafting either

I don’t know why you think they’ll part ways with Batherson. Just haven’t heard any indication that he’s a player they are looking to move.
No one knows if or when Norris will be back or if he’ll be able to stay healthy. They’ll already try to replace Tarasanko with someone that fits their ideology. They’ll be brining vets in for the bottom lines that also bring what they want.

They’re definitely bringing changes to the D and it seems like they actively trying to fix goaltending which is probably the biggest problem.
The top 6forward group isn’t something they’ll be messing with IMO.

This is the worst the sens have been in all the rebuild years.

I still don’t think this is a bad team or that many moves has to be done but mentally, these kids are at a loss.

Exactly why they need to trade a few of these 'core' guys and surround them with winners.

Chabot is 27 and has never played a playoff game, batherson will be 26 in April - same thing.

Batherson is a 25 goal, 50-55 points winger with size under $5M. Honestly, he's been one of the few bright spots on the team this year. Why on earth would they trade him? Maybe for Swayman (extended).
