Just so I have it straight, every player the sens drafted is listed as a LW or LD. Some can play their off side or move to center, but they're all listed in their "natural" positions .

How is a reach defined? I don't think they reached on any of their first three picks at all. Reach and steal might be the dumbest terms in regards to the draft.

Also Stutzle is not even close to being boom or bust.

Go and read some of the analysis of Stutzle and the comparisons to Kane and Forsberg. I can't believe how awesome he sounds and how aware he is of his shortcomings and how he wants to succeed and win.

This is one of the greatest pure skilled players in our history and will wow crowds for a long time. Will he make mistakes? Yes. Will he tickle 80+ points? Yes.

Be ready, this is gonna be fun. He also does the Donkey backwards check like Forsberg.

Sens pick some Finnish goalie

I'm not thrilled with the Sanderson pick or the 33rd overall pick. Or the Merilainen pick for that matter. Why draft another goalie? Take a break from the goalies and drafting redundant positions.

Whatever though. I guess it's a successful draft? Can't hit or miss on all 7 or so picks we've made thus far. But I will go on record to say I don't like the Sanderson pick at all. I hope I am proven wrong.

I'm cool with Stutzle but his style won't translate well to the NHL right away.

Also to be clear I am not Dung on any of the players, I am Dung on the drafting decisions

Hogberg could absolutely work out as a long term solution. He actually played really well for the Sens last year, and was decent for the B-Sens too. It's hard to judge a Sens goalie based just on the #s from last year, because the defence was so uniquely terrible. But I remember watching Hogberg a bunch and being very impressed.

it was all about the first two picks + the third first rounder that got worse because of NYI's fluke run. Stutzle and Sanderson are what will make this is a defining draft.

Second rounders are just crapshoots.

I agree the goalie was picked too high. Knew they would get a goalie though.

This was a defining draft and I'm of the opinion that the Sens wasted a lot of opportunities to make it the draft they needed. Happy we got Stutzle though any GM would have taken him at #3. No scouting required. I like the Murray trade though what Dorion signs him to is a mystery. You'd think he would have come over with a new contract in place, no?

I am not thrilled whatsoever about drafting Sanderson. We had more pressing needs that could have been filled at #5 instead of drafting someone to play behind our franchise d-man. Guys that rise up that quickly over the second half of a COVID shortened season terrifies me. Would have much rather added a proven d-man through a trade than take a shot on a kid playing in an inferior development league. Rossi or Holtz were the guys to get at the 5 spot - and then to add Kleven at the same position was the icing on top. I am unhappy with the Jarventie pick with Peterka on the board, and Merilainen was a bonehead move that simply can't be justified aside from our one (?) European scout being Finnish. He was on virtually no one's draft board.

Otherwise it is what it is and I look forward to using our top-five pick in next year's draft to acquire another left-handed defencemen or left-winger. For the record:

Sanderson - LHD
Greig - LW
Jarventie - LW (passed on Paterka who is a natural RW and played with Stutzle)
Kleven - LHD
Sokolov - LW (at least he shoots right)
Merilainen - G (on no one's draft list)

Disappointing but expected draft. How the Sens plan on hitting the cap floor now that their biggest trade chips are gone is beyond me.

Very good 24 hours for the Sens. There are still lots of ways to get to the cap floor - that wasn't really an issue that needed to be addressed yesterday or today.

Disagree. There are lots of teams pressed to move players and picks were our best asset. We are also not signing anyone of relevance in free agency.

How do we get to the cap floor?

It's not an issue at all. They can trade for cap hits or sign marginal free agents who may have nowhere else to go. Like they overpaid Hainsey last season. Murray is going to be $5-6 himself, along with Duclair, Brown, etc extensions.
