Very good 24 hours for the Sens. There are still lots of ways to get to the cap floor - that wasn't really an issue that needed to be addressed yesterday or today.

Disagree. There are lots of teams pressed to move players and picks were our best asset. We are also not signing anyone of relevance in free agency.
Tkachuk (ELC) Brown (ELC) Duclair (RFA)
Stutzle (ELC) Tierney(RFA) Batherson (ELC)
C.Brown(RFA) Norris (ELC) White
Paul(RFA)-Anisimov-Balcers (RFA)
Extra: Abramov
Chabot-Zaitsev
Wolanin-Zub (ELC)
Brannstrom (ELC)-Brown
Extra: Reilly
Murray
Nillson
Hogberg
How do we get to the cap floor?

It's not an issue at all. They can trade for cap hits or sign marginal free agents who may have nowhere else to go. Like they overpaid Hainsey last season. Murray is going to be $5-6 himself, along with Duclair, Brown, etc extensions.

Overpay players on the 30th place team just to hit the cap floor is the definition of poor cap management.

i don't mind but they could have picked someone lower than the 3rd round. whatever.
i don't think this draft is gonna be as definigning for us as they are making it out to be.
it was all about the first two picks + the third first rounder that got worse because of NYI's fluke run. Stutzle and Sanderson are what will make this is a defining draft.
Second rounders are just crapshoots.
I agree the goalie was picked too high. Knew they would get a goalie though.
tim1_2 wrote:DefenceWinsChampionships wrote:Yeah I'm cool with it. Hogberg was never a long term solution. Daccord and Gus are the future. Maybe sogaard too.
Hogberg could absolutely work out as a long term solution. He actually played really well for the Sens last year, and was decent for the B-Sens too. It's hard to judge a Sens goalie based just on the #s from last year, because the defence was so uniquely terrible. But I remember watching Hogberg a bunch and being very impressed.

I get you. we expected the door to be blown open with skill and we went the safe route again.
I think had we had gone with another offensive talent with the 5th and a high ceiling guy with the 28th we'd feel different. I know I certainly would.
That Grieg kid will be fun to watch when you forget where he was drafted. he's gonna make it hell for other teams to play us. He is a tougher Jarko Ruutu. More scoring potential and toughness. But not the "Brad Marchand" some tiny minority of fans are saying. not unless he discovers an extra notch to his game.
Look at that kid we drafted at the end of the 2nd round. Sokolov.
He could be another Mike Hoffman for us. Scoring machine.
