To pretend that Ottawa scouts are beyond reproach is a hilariously ignorant opinion. The word is out that this was a immensely failed draft for a team that could easily have hit a grand slam with just the most lazy swing and with only 2 runners on base.

The Sens draft was a putrid blend over of overthinking the obvious and dismissing the obscure.

PTFlea, would you be able to show me someone or something that isn’t affiliated with the Sens and that said the Sens had a good draft? You’ve already said you don’t do your own scouting which is fine, so I’d like to know the opinion you’ve used to say the Sens had a good draft. We aren’t talking about the Sens taking good players because they are all good players, I’d like to see who or what says the Sens had a good draft considering all their picks as a totality.

I know Sportsnet and a few others were high on Sanderson (there's a reason Burke is an analyst and not a GM), but the majority of reports and rankings I saw had him going 10-15. Craig Button, whose ranking are a combination of scouts he's talked to, had Sanderson at 11.

And why oh why did we trade up to get Kleven? Our LHD depth: Chabot, Brannstrom, Wolanin, Sanderson, Lajoie, Tychonik and now Kleven is in the mix?

I'm upset about four picks: Sanderson, Roby, Kleven, and that unranked finnish goalie. Maybe this Roby guy ends up being pretty good, but the other three picks were wasted. I'm actually excited about Greig though I think he has Curtiz Lazar potential. Hopefully he doesn't smile as much and produces instead.

If you are looking for a plan, Ottawa has been the blind leading the blind without auditory signals or walking sticks for years now. Kudos to them for just asking for 2020 picks for years now. The optics of that looked good for simplistic fans.

Many of dorions moves have not made a ton of sense at the time. In hindsight, most look pretty good.

Traded Karlsson (everyone hated it)
Traded turris (loved in the community)
Duchene trade, hainsey and ennis signings...

They've all had a purpose and worked out well.

Hoffman trade, he was handcuffed. Brass for Sub was a risk that he got burned on...

JD Burke is the last guy I’d go to for any sort of valid hockey analysis. Couldnt care less what he thinks about the sens or or any other team

In 5 years from now when they do a 2020 redraft, Sanderson is that guy who is going to fall outside the top 10 which is where he should have gone. Not because he will end up being bad, but because there were better options available. jarventie has more bust potential than he does top six potential and Greig is a middle six forward at best - most likely an energy 4th liner. The rest of the draft was overagers and reaches, and I can't even begin to try to rationalize trading up to get Kleven. It wasn't a good draft. There really is no debating it. Stutzle and Sanderson was my worst case top five and it happened. I'd still prefer Stutzle over Raymond, but the combo of Stutzle and Sanderson was the exact thing I didn't want to happen. Hope I am wrong

You need to go watch tape and get educated on Sanderson, IMO. And not from bloggers. He wasn’t getting past 7 if Sens didn’t take him.He has elite potential. Chabot lite offense with much better defense. There’s a reason some teams had him 3rd overall. And that doesn’t mean he was the sure fire option. I was fine with three other guys there.

Oh. I totally think you need a good defense to win. But they drafted a guy to be a second pairing dman behind the best player on the team. And in not crapping on Sanderson, on crapping on them taking him at #5. I don't think he was the right pick there

It’s just faulty logic. If you have two Thomas chabots on separate pairs, you’re going to win a lot of games. 1st pair and 2nd pair will be basically the same. Anyways let’s agree to disagree, I’m tired of talking about this. I think by next summer, Sanderson will be seen as a justified pick without question
