Regardless of where the lottery falls, I don't think there's any chance the Sens management gives up the pick this year. There's just no way.

I agree, just because I think this year was an aberration and we should be happy with adding an almost ready prospect with this draft. But at the same time, if management is actually considering not having Karlsson for the majority of next season, I don’t see how their evaluation of this team without him isn’t last place next year. Even still though, picking at worst case scenario 5th this year, is looking to be better than anything but Jack Hughes next year. So yes, I hope we keep this years pick for many reasons.

Laughing3 Takdfhskachuk.
What D-man though? After Dahlin most likely goes 1st overall, I assume it is a coin flip between Boqvist and Hughes with the only distinguishable quality being one is a RHD, and the other a LHD. They will be the next D’s off the board in my opinion. After that, I think it is anyone best guess to rank Dobson and Bouchard. Depending on the team, when players are this close, team need might come into play earlier this year. Normally, when it comes to early picks, I subscribe to the best player available should be picked. I don’t know who I like yet this year.

Out of those two I’d take Boqvist

Yeah, I like the sound of Boqvist without knowing crap about him really.

Everyone is forgetting Bouchard who is much bigger and better defensively than both Boqvist and Hughes, and led the crappy Knights team in points.

As I have said multiple times, if the Sens can get their hands on another top-10 pick (Ceci or Hoffman trade) I certainly see them going after Bouchard if he is available.

I don't see Ceci or Hoff alone getting us another top 10 pick. These top 10 picks rarely get moved, especially after the season...so yeah, don't see that happening.

It would be nice if Pitt lost in the 1st rd. I'd say there could be an opportunity to package it with one of the two aforementioned players to get back into the top 10.

I also believe NYR would move their pick if it meant getting a quality player back in return. They could very well add Tavares and Kovalchuk this off-season and be right back in the thick of things.

I have to believe a lot of teams are eyeing the NYR as trading partners as they have 3 1st round picks this year.
Plus, go Flyers go!

I just watched Bouchard play last night and outside the consensus top 3, picking 4-6 is going to be tough to decide.

I haven’t forgot about Bouchard. Quoted above is the original post that started this thread. The D is deep at the top of this draft and nobody has even mentioned Ty Smith yet either. I just think Dahlin, Boqvist and Hughes go before Bouchard. Boqvist is doing amazing things for his age as he was almost eligible for the 2019 draft. Him and Tkachuk are the opposite there because Tkachuk was born one day later than the cutoff for the 2017 draft, making him the oldest in this draft.

Dorion said they are probably keeping this years pick.

Well of course they are. First time picking top-five in 22 years, I heard. I don't think they'll have anywhere near than next season.

The Sens will obviously wait until the draft lottery to make a final decision, but yeah, this pick will be kept.

I hope so. At this point, if the Sens draft
1st, I’d take Dahlin
2nd, Zadina
3rd, Svechnikov
4th, Hughes
5th, Boqvist
2 and 3 is a coin flip right now and I still haven’t decided.

Pretty much. M’not sure about Hughes. But for sure a Dman in the 4rth and 5th spot.

15 days from knowing our draft position. I saw Dorion in Barrie last night. It wasn’t a good showcase game for Svechnikov. Luchuk played better and is a little fireplug in the corners. He showed a real agitator side to his game in this blowout. If there is a game 7, I will be there as well.

That sucks. Kingston eliminated Barrie last night. I was hoping to go to game 7 too. Svechnikov did not have a good playoff. Luchuk’s OHL career is over, the faceoff monster for Barrie will probably play for Belleville next year.

I’d take Hughes just because next year, his brother can pull a Lindros and refuse to play for anyone but us. The thing to me is Quinn, Jack and Luke have secretly been planning to be the next best thing to the Sedins since the Sedins. The Sens will have all three Hughes boys in 2021. Far fetched?

Cool article on Luchuk:
https://www.nhl.com/senators/news/sens-farm-report-aaron-luchuk/c-296153582

"That was a huge motivator for me. Not getting drafted has made me a better player," said Luchuk about not hearing his name called at the NHL Draft. "I saw a lot of guys that I grew up playing with get taken and that definitely put a chip on my shoulder. It made me want to sign an NHL contract even more and I pushed myself incredibly hard over the past few years to achieve that goal."

He, now, knows first-hand that it takes hard work to get where he wants to be, and he also knows that he can do it.

"My first game ever in Ottawa was the Senators hosting the Maple Leafs and I remember just how bitter the Battle of Ontario rivalry was at the time," Luchuk recalled. "It was the game where Darcy Tucker jumped in to the Senators' bench way back in the day."

He's also a close friend of Logan Brown from when they both played on the Spitfires.
