I do agree that he’s not on his game.

So all this to say, I don't believe depth to be as important as dressing quality players. The Sens need someone to either play with Karlsson or replace one of Ceci/Phaneuf on the 2nd pairing. It's as simple as that.
I actually thought Ryan and Smith both had really good games. It's a matter of time before Bobby gets going again. Smith is still not a top-six player but he definitely is an above average 3rd line winger. And despite Duchene's lack of scoring, he creates something every shift. He's by far the most talented player on the team. I'm happy to see him score.
Aside from goaltending Ottawa's PP is terrible. If they score 1-2 PPG a game they win a few games on this slide. Their confidence is at an all-time low. They need a win in Mtl this Wednesday or it could be the end of their season.

Last year Methot was *not* their #1 shut-down guy, he was just Karlsson's babysitter. Phaneuf-Ceci was their shut-down pairing. Ceci had more ice time per game than Methot.
Anderson is not "fine"
Their PP was not "decent" to start the year, they were something like 0-20 through 7 games. They went on a nice streak that got them into the top-third of the league, then they crashed again.
Regarding shot quality, I don't have this in front of me but someone posted an "expected goals" graph for all the goalies in the league. This one takes into account not just shot quantity but also quality, calculates the "expected" goals and compares that to actual goals allowed. They call it something like "goals saved above average". Needless to say, Bobrovsky leads all the goalies. Anderson was something like second from the bottom!
While looking for that chart I found one that showed these numbers (goals saved above average, normalized to 60 minutes) over a 3 year period and Anderson was middle-of-the-pack, just slightly above average. I didn't check the years but it's very likely that the 3-year span included one up-tick and two down-ticks in his sawtooth SV% chart because I do think and believe that Anderson is an above average goalie.
I think the sloting of Dzingel an Pyatt in the top 6had more to with getting duos in the top 3 lines by having stone-brass, Duchene-ryan, Pageau-Hoffman as a 3 line force with complimentary players. Trying to generate offence on 3 lines, they could have bunched all those players. On two lines but who knows if we’d be more successful with 2 4rth line to complement that after.DefenceWinsChampionships wrote:wprager wrote:Some comments on previous posts:

Ice time and matchups are two different things. Methot was our best stay-at-home defenceman last year hands down. I don't care about minutes. Ceci is a jack of all trades but master of none. He's a 5-6 d-man at best. There is no argument to be had that Ceci is a better hockey player than Methot.
I was blown away by Anderson's extension both in terms of money and term. Slotting Dzingel, Smith, and Pyatt in your top six should speak volumes about how bad this team is and/or management's assessment of player value. Ottawa is in trouble unless they find a way to bring another impact player or two to this lineup.

Yeah but they will shift their hatred towards management and say "ugh we could have traded him two years ago for Drouin ugh!"
