The Diddle are you talking about ? The stupid move is not asking him to waive. Grow up? really?

Why could this not have been done quietly? Why did anyone need to know? It's caused unnecessary drama and it's not the first time ottawa management has done this kind of thing.

Maybe it's nothing and media has made a bigger deal of it, but again, it's unnecessary.

It's buffet surmising more than anything.

There's nothing wrong with the Phaneuf situation at all. It was the right call by Dorion to ask him to waive, and he's obviously got the right to say no. The Sens can make a deal with Vegas to not take certain defencemen, or to make them select a forward, etc. It'll be up to Dorion to determine if the price is worth it. Every team is facing these kinds of decisions (other than maybe the Stupid Leafs with all their Stupid Exempt Players).

Dorion could also elect to protect 4D and 4F if he chooses.

Hey, fair enough money. Maybe it was the optics of it that rubbed me the wrong way with media beating it to death.

I think everyone wants this expansion situation over with asap.

It's not a big deal at all.

Dorion asked, Dion said no. Both were within their right to do it. The smart play is to protect Methot who we know can play top two minutes. Ceci is an RFA soon and will command more money, and I honestly think Ceci is a bottom pairing next season anyway:

Methot-Karlsson
Chabot-Phaneuf
Claesson-Ceci

Keep in mind this leaves Wideman and Boro as the extra and Harpur can play in the NHL. So if this is the case then I'd be just as happy with Wideman in the bottom pairing than Ceci. I'd also prefer Vegas take Ceci than Claesson anyway

you or I have no idea who would have even put out info if it was leaked. It could have been Phaneuf's agent. Either way, it's all speculation from the media.

if Methot is lost, then so be it. He's aging, injury prone, has a messed up finger, and isn't that great.

The bigger concern is how bad the team is when Karlsson isn't on the ice.

I personally really like Claesson a lot, but even you said we should continue to have him on the third pairing, so that means, what, Chabot comes in and tries to pick up the slack lost my Methot? Or we have to go out and get a new D-man who needs to learn the whole system and needs to learn what he can and can't do with Karlsson.

Karlsson can play with anybody IMO. If Methot is lost, they would go after a D-man in UFA of trade. The system isn't hard to learn for defensemen. Karl Alzner for example could be a big add if we lost Methot. Better player in almost every way.

That is true. Alzner would be quite the pick up but I'm sure wsh resigns him to keep.

Too much. Bu I agree with your logic. Dorion should be working the phones to see what value Methot and Ceci have in the market. If we lose one for nothing he failed as a GM. But if he can package one of them in a trade and add something else for a top-six forward upgrade now is the time to do it.

He will have to look at each team and who they are protecting. Both have different values. Methot is a better stay at home defenceman but he's injury prone and older. Ceci isn't as good but he's younger and the team has contract control over him.

Could be an interesting week for Sens fans.
