I wouldn't mind making a splash for a player with term left. Not really into the idea of a rental unless it costs us less than a 3rd rounder.

If by some miracle we made it past the 2nd round this, I would hope, would fill the pockets of Melnyk enough for him to say all in with acquiring the right players regardless of money for next season.

I bet a team in the hunt gives them a 1st for Hansen.  Or a 2nd + decent prospect.
He had a good year last year but he's a 15-20 goal scorer. Nothing to write home about IMO. Definitely not my preferred target. He's a third liner on an ok to decent team.

Very versatile though, he can play top line, all the way down.  And an excellent two way player.  I think he plays an excellent PK.

Condra plays an excellent PK. We should just get him...

Sens should not be looking to bolster their bottom six. That's why we got Wingels. I'd look to improve on Ceci and try to acquire a top-six forward with term. I am not saying get rid of Ceci, but I am not comfortable with him in my top-four right now. He's performing well below expectations IMO. As for a top-six, Dzingel and Ryan are not top-six players. Dzingel is over-performing and Ryan is greatly under-performing.

New Jersey has some interesting pieces and given the state of their team, a pick, prospect, and salary relief could go a long way. Palmieri makes a ton of sense to me if he's available. I'd even take a flyer on Henrique though he's a lefty.

Nope.

For some other teams maybe. Teams that have little cap space. I'd be very weary to trade for Eaves. He's having a stellar year in Dallas but his production could easily dry up if he was moved to another system. The fact that's he's cheap will also likely boost up the cost of acquiring him. To me it's a pass. Not mentioning that he's a pure rental.

Yeah, he's having his first good season in 10 years and also on a pretty offense-oriented team. Don't think he'd be a good fit here.

Agreed. I think we need to focus on a big acquisition. Although I doubt they are looking to shop palmieri. If anything I think NJ is trying to shop UFA's and hope they can retool through the draft.
I think when they made that trade for Hall it meant they weren't interested in the full rebuild. Although you could say that they would test it outnfor a few years and if it didn't work out they might be able to trade Hall for more than they gave up to get him. Which if you ask me is quite possible.

I agree to some extent. The Hall trade to me signalled a change in philosophy from a 'trap' team to a more offensive team. They have some pretty talented forwards: Hall, Cammalleri, Henrique, Zajac, Palmieri, Zacha, Parenteau, Bennett. They have a great goalie. I think NJ is in the midst of an identity crisis. They need to re-establish their brand of hockey. The problem is they have virtually no good prospects in their system aside from Zacha, Quenneville and maybe Speers. Nick Paul would be a starter on the Devils. Claesson would maybe even be a top-four there. They would probably be happy with a trade for a couple of mid-range prospects at this point. IMO, their most notable UFA is Parenteau who has been one of their best players. If I were them I'd be looking to free up some salary if it meant assets coming back.

Paul and Harpur for Palmieri? Hell, even Lazar+Paul+3rd for Palmieri+Quincy?

No comparison between condra and Hansen.   Only that they both play hockey. Hansen is very good.

Dorion basically came out and said that Condon and Pyatt were fairly easily replaceable and that he'd negotiate after the trade deadline had come and gone, but he honestly didn't seem to care at all.

So take that for what it's worth (very little)

Just looking for a rock bottom deal. I doubt Boucher wants to lose either.

Boucher probably has another half-dozen ex-pat NHLers toiling away in Europe on speed-dial who would drop everything to come here.

I think they'll resign pyatt. If they are negotiating on anything it's probably term. I'm sure dorion would be happy with just a one year deal. Condon might actually be in line for a 2 year deal. If pyatt is cheap then maybe a two year deal can be done also. If a rookie comes along after next year wanting his spot and if pyatt is still playing the same way he can be traded.

Palmieri is one season away from a 30 goal year and could manage to put close to 25 this year. And that's on a team that's struggling to score. Heck I'd want him too but it's gonna likely cost more than that. Maybe not quantity but quality. Something like lazar and a 1st or Pau, al first+. Something like that

I doubt NJ wants to trade Palmieri...he's 26 and under a reasonable contract (4.65M until 20/21).  PA Parenteau would be a much more reasonable target, but he'd likely be pure rental territory....

Why would they trade one of their few decent players? They suck, they need to trade off any assets that aren't in their longterm plans and build from Schneider/Hall/Henrique/Zajac, Svenson (or whatever that D-man's name is) and Greene out.

Even Henrique is wearing out his welcome, I'd imagine. Almost time to burn it to the ground and build around Zajac.Schneider/Hall/Severson. What a sad place to play ice hockey.

Ron Hainsey traded from Carolina to Pittsburgh with 50% retained by Carolina - for a 2nd round pick and some dude (Kristo).

I don't think Danny kristo is much to write home about. First drafted (I think in the second round) by the habs to be a scorer and I think he was part of that Gomez package an eternity ago. I don't even think he got resigned by the rags. Seems to have had success at the AHL level but for some reason he never gets a shot in the NHL.

So basically it's a 2nd round pick and an AHLer for hainsey.

My first thought was wow, thats expensive but I guess hainsey plays 22 minutes a night in Carolina. So you're basically getting a top 4 Dman for a 2nd rounder. It's a rental but ok. Sets the price at fair.

I think they were hoping to rebuild around Travis "Pat" Zajac when they first starting sucking. What a mistake that was. Zajac? Really?! Laugh1 Laughing3
