Also, Duchene would have very little motivation to sign an extension since this is his one chance to hit UFA right in the prime of his career.

Disagree. He's from outside Toronto and will probably be happy to play closer to home. They probably won't re-sign Brassard when he's a UFA, and I imagine they will try to move Ryan between now and then. So while cap space seems tight right now, by the time he's a UFA the priority will be to sign him, Turris, and Karlsson. I get that's a lot of money but there's your core with Stone and Hoffman and, White, Brown and Chabot still on ELC's.

I feel as though Dorion can avoid trading White if it means adding in Lazar and Chlapik. Do you do it?

He can play closer to home and still go to free agency.... And I don't think bundling Lazar (no value) and Chlapik makes up for not including White.

Someone updated Matt Duchene's wikipedia page to make him an Ottawa Senator Smile

I've only ever updated *one* wikipedia page in my life. It was for Alexander Graham Bell. I was looking at it with my kid for a school assignment and noticed that it said "... something, something -- the year of his monkey." It should have been "...the year of his death", so I changed it.

So, no, that wasn't me. I saw one of the Sens bloggers tweet it out. Grabbed a screen cap before it was changed back.

Disagree. Lazar has value despite his production. And Chlapik is putting up really good numbers in the Q. Who is to say White pans out? At least with Chlapik and Lazar you have a higher probability of one of them being a good NHLer - though Lazar is off to a horrid start.

Well, we'll likely never know what it would take to bring Duchene to Ottawa.....but maybe Dorion shocks the world!

I don't want to see white, a 1st and Ceci be the deal. That too god damn expensive. I see ceci's spot being to big of a whole to fill (unless they have a side deal). Still. White is going to be a huge part of this team for years to come.
I believe they can sign duch to an extension when it comes time. This team is trending in the right direction and he gets to play with karlsson. It's a great opportunity.
But I can't believe that price should be paid. That's three huge pieces.

I'm actually surprised we don't have a mid-range contract to send back. Somewhere in the $2.5-$4M range. That's what makes this trade difficult. We have players on great contracts, and then on brutal contracts. Nothing in between. Honestly, I think we run the risk of losing Ceci in expansion anyway. Karlsson, Methot, and Phaneuf may not waive. Even then, I'd maybe keep Wideman over Ceci. Makes him expendable next year. This year is kind of tough without another side deal in place.

Maybe Dorion turned around and was able to keep Ceci out of a trade by including Englund? That could be why they are stuck on White.

Englund, White, Lazar, 1st for Duchene. Seems fair. Ceci, White, 1st is too much. Ceci, White, Lazar is too much. Who knows.

Well there's the other wrinkle in this whole thing...if they don't think they can protect Ceci this off-season, then yeah, maybe toss him into a trade now and at least get some value for him.

Methot doesn't have to be protected but I kind of envisioned we might be trading ceci by the expansion draft but after he season was over.
I don't think Colorado bites on Englund. Not enough of a big fish.

If we are being really real here I think Ceci and a first is fair value for duchene. Lets be honest. But it ain't going to happen because someone will overpay to get duchene.
I think something like Ceci, a first and chlapik would be more than fair. And I say this with regret because I'd really like to see what chlapik can do as a senator one day.
But if they insist on white it won't happen IMO. No matter what SSF says, I don't think there are any contracts hold up. He'd have to spend 2 more years at college? That's just not happening for a guy that is playing at his caliber.
IMO that is fan paranoia.

If somehow duchene winds up here I hope everyone is ready to see him get 7 mill per season on his next contract. Likely not worth that much(something around 6?)
It's getting hard to see how we are gonna pay everyone down the line.
Turris 6
Stone 6
Karlsson 8? 9? Maybe more?
You start asking yourself how do you trade/move/make sure Vegas bites on Bobby Ryan

You have to be prepared to take a bad contract back. I don't think it will be Vegas that takes him though. Here's how you sell him:

Rags if/when Nash is a UFA after next season.
LA for Dustin Brown
San Jose once they decide what to do with Thornton/Marleau
Philly because of his ties to Bobby Clarke
Detroit as their annual reclamation project
Carolina as a marquee player
Vancouver to try to stimulate some offense (and give the Sedins a shot to be competitive next year)

In a perfect world you do the Duchene trade, followed up with a Ryan for Gudbranson trade.

All very interesting options but A I don't think the rags would be interested when they have internal answers, B Dustin brown would be a 5.8 mill burden on its own for years to come and Ryan is more effective, C philly is cap crunched as it is and will have themselves big contracts to hand out, D I think Detroit likes one or two year projects and wouldn't tie another guy that wearing down when they are trying to get younger, possibly Carolina and although I don't see a perfect fit in Vancouver I'm finding it harder to say it's impossible since it feels like they are a mess to begin with.
Vegas is a good option if they want a name player.

If we do wind up trading Ceci, I wonder if you take a run at kulikov. I wouldn't mind that guy on our team on a 3-4 year contract. Ease chabot in the first few years
