Dorion said it's the fastest way to get him prepped for NHL action. So while it's not officially "for conditioning" it is for conditioning.

He should stay there the year.

I half-jokingly said he should go on a 52-game conditioning stint but we simply don't have a lot on the right side in the bottom six. With Lazar in Bingo you have Pyatt and Neil (btw, love the new rosterresource.com site -- they already have the roster updated for Lazar's move).

I don't expect Pyatt to light it up, and I'm not sure if Neil should be playing a full 80+ game schedule anyway. So unless they put a leftie on right wing (and we're not exactly flush with high-end talent) or sign/trade for a RW, I expect Lazar to be back fairly soon.

So we start the season with Smith in the top six and Lazar in the AHL. Could be worse. At least we're not starting O'Connor in the home opener against a Divisional opponent.

I'd be happier if we had a LW in Smith's spot and Smith with Pageau personally. But...yeah...

To be honest they should have tried Varone on LW L2 or maybe put JGP there and slide Smith to C L3.

Pageau might become a viable option if Mac's out long term (which I don't think he will be).

There's a bit of a question mark with Varone. He played well with turris but I'm not a fan of Pyatt on the 3rd line.
And that fourth line? Dzingel' speed wont likely be properly utilized.

You better know something we don't Boucher.

Varone has 10 points in 43 NHL games spread over three seasons. Smith has way more experience -- and success -- than that. Remember how well Dzingel was doing, then they played him in the top-six and he quickly went -3 in two periods and got moved back down to the bottom-six. These guys have outplayed Puempel but they are still far from a being able to play in the top-six.

Feel bad for Pageau. He lost both of his wingers.

I have to admit that I'm experiencing a bi-polar like pre-season expectations. From thinking we might contend for the top 3 in our division to wondering by how much we might miss the playoffs by.

Seems like most pundits have us missing the playoffs. Although I find their analysis never takes into consideration how badly hurt we were last season and what a difference Dion would have made had he been there all season I must admit that my rosy glasses are somewhat returning to their usual shades of grey.

I don't see us becoming anything near a contender with our current line-up. We need to make a trade for a impact left winger and need to bring in another bottom pairing d-man.
Long term I also think we'll have to adress our goaltending situation. We may be fine this year but will we going forward past that? The more I think about it the more I'm looking in the direction of Bishop. Yes, he guy we gave away. I'm not confident in what we have in the pipeline and Hammond IMO will never be more than a very good back-up at best.
It would likely demand some shifty work from Dorion but I could see a Anderson + a good pick(like our first in a Dung draft) for a resigned bishop before the trade deadline. It would aslo give them significant cap space and a very servicable back up or 1B option for the following year. It's a dream but it makes sense to me.

Ok back to reality.

If the Lightning make that deal, it's so that they can expose Anderson and hope that he's a top G option.

Are they even dressing all those guys? What happened to 11 forwards? It definitely looks like they loaded up the top 6 but one would hope a guy like Stone gets double shifted and joins the Pageau line.
