I'm not sure I'd want BM to give up any of the 3 items mentioned for Sharp, let alone all 3 together. Lehner? Only if he's viewed in the org as Neely describes. The first? Not a huge fan of that, but I guess I'd consider it. Puempel? No, because I think he will be the better player in 2 years.

Could we get a 1st for MacArthur? No? Well what if he was 2 years older and and a 68% higher cap hit?

Sharp would instantly be our best left winger, has three cups, everything we're looking for. He might be declining, he might not be given they have to many players there for him to showcase himself.

"Give us all this stuff for Patrick Sharp"

Nah I'll offer sheet Saad for $6M a year instead, you can match, then trade Sharp for a 7th.

I don't think any org out there trades a 1st plus two top end prospects for "might." I'll be shocked if the return is anything better than a late 1st and a serviceable, cheap roster player.

You're probably right but look at what a guy like St.Louis got. Even older and more in the decline.

As for Lehner. Why would you not trade him sharp? That's the best offer you could get

I'm still one of those guys who's hoping that what I'm hearing about Lehner is wrong and that we don't move him. Long shot, I know, but we've got a lot invested in him and I hate to give up on that.

For St. Louis... that was a very peculiar situation. NY was not going to pay Callahan what he wanted, so basically they traded a pending UFA they were not going to re-sign plus a late first and a second for a signed St. Louis. And the 2nd was recompense for Callahan re-signing with TB. It was a rich price, no doubt, but the situation was peculiar, and it was a deadline deal -- a point in the year where GMs on competing teams seem to hold picks in low esteem.

I'm not convinced he would be. Will he have a rebound year or was this the start of the inevitable decline? He would also be coming into a complete different environment (new coach, system, teammates, opposition) than what he's bee used to for the last decade. He'd be moving a young family (or keeping them back -- either way, a big disruption). A deadline deal, sure, I'd understand that. A player signed for 2-3 years? Makes sense, too. But a 33-year old who may be on the decline, with one year left and lots of things to adjust to in that year? I'd be very concerned.

I agree about Lehner. I don't want to trade him, he's young and will work through any issues. He did a couple of years ago as well.

St. Louis was traded at the deadline. He won the Art Ross the previous season and stood 8th in points at the time of the trade. Hardly comparable to Sharp

Anyone else have a nagging suspicion that this Lehner talk is aimed at dropping interest? Why would someone working for the organization, when they *have to move* a goalie and have two to move, trying to maximize the return -- why would you want to spread the word that the team has really soured on one of those goalies? They'd take a second for him? They already have two seconds, do they really value Lehner that low? And even if they do, would they truly want anyone to know it?

Especially in light of all the recent reports saying how Lehner is the piece other GMs would want more. Something smells here.
