Captain Curtis Lazar!

You know, he already had the 'C' on his chest last night, but this one will be on the correct side.

Who? Not Lazar because he didn't dominate any part. Good game though.

On the second goal he didn't get any assist but that goal doesn't happen without his forecheck.

Cool. I hope he got the 1st star for that. Laugh1

Here's your Christmas #budget update:

Sens have the lowest cap-spending in the league. At this rate, they could take on $62M in salary at the deadline! Talk about being in a position to make some blockbuster moves!

I'm pretty sure they're keeping all that cap open to make moves when "the time is right." We already have a stacked lineup top to bottom so it's tough to justify a move "for the sake of making a trade."

I was thinking about this today actually. What makes someone worth $5M and someone worth $1M? I look at Methot and say "what have you accomplished in your career?", "what makes you a $5M a year player", and "what makes you worth more than someone else in the same position". Even looking at Ryan vs Hoffman, is Ryan worth $6M more than Hoffman per year? I agree that Ryan is more valuable a player, but is he worth the equivalent of 7 Hoffmans or is Methot worth 5 Borowieckis?

Point I am making is it shouldn't matter what a team's 'cap' situation is. It's a matter of putting the right people on the ice in the right situations. Putting Chris Neil on the ice when you're trying to tie up a game? Pointless. Ottawa screwed up when they re-signed Michalek. They should have let him walk knowing that they had depth in the minors and an already saturated roster. Same can be said for Phillips. They paid a premium for these players because they have experience, but what should experience cost and how valuable is it really? It's a part of every player's development to gain experience, but shouldn't it be the coach's job to get the players ready? Between Neil, Michalek, and Phillips Ottawa is paying $8.4M this season for a combined 7G, 11A, and -5. Kyle Turris (@ $3.5M) has 7G, 16A and -8. Even Stone at $600K has 16pts and +5.

I don't care to bring in a big name player or getting to the cap ceiling. I want someone who can come in at a reasonable price and make a positive difference, and I think that's been Melnyk's credo for the last couple of years. Zib, Chiasson, Hoffman, Pageau, Stone, Wiercioch, Ceci are all RFA's next season. Between those 7 guys you're adding at least an extra $10M in salary for the same players.

Don't forget that players get paid for past performance and future expectations. Hoffman is performing above his current salary and he will get a nice raise. Ryan is being paid for being a former 4-tie 30-goal scorer with the expectation that last two seasons (stomach ailment and sports hernia) were the exception and not the expectation.

I know this is TFP but i can't help but be peaked that the ottawa senators could be interested in Oshie. I just don't see the top tier talent they could get from us.

The same top-tier talent we gave up for Ryan. Only less because this is a lesser player.

personally I would see if there's any interest out there for Legwand.

obviously phillips is a name you put out there if BM has the guts.

if Phillips was traded, Lazar would be the new man of the Phillips' household. You know what that means

BM had the guts to trade the biggest media darling and fan-favourite ever, Mike "Fishlander" Fisher. Trading Phillips, currently the biggest goat on the team, would be easy in comparison.

If I were Legwand, I would have demanded a trade a long time ago.

Mike Fisher was already establishing himself in Nashville before the trade, though.

Trade any of the vets (besides Anderson) that you can for the most part. Neil, Phillips, Legwand, Michalek, Greening, maybe Condra (I would resign Condra if you could move some bodies). Get anything you can for these guys, clear some spots, let the kids play, keep on working.
