True, but they are similar enough that you'd rarely see Spezza doing either.  I think it's more that MacLean trusts the vets more than he does the rooks and he's rewarding them with the possibility of getting an empty netter.

I think you're right when you say PMac trusts the vets more...he trusts them more to play defensively sound and not make a mistake.

Wasn't going to say it myself but thank you.

It's not necessarily a negative on Neil, I just think there are plenty of other options I'd rather see out there when the game's on the line. Lazar, MacArthur, Turris, Ryan, Condra, Legwand, Stone to name a few forwards. Neil has a penchant to take a silly penalty once in a while and his footspeed makes him average at best defensively - lol at the +/- argument.

I don't get why anyone would want Curtis "Own Goal" Lazar out there with the game on the line but whatever. GAME DAY: Red Wings @ Sens - Tuesday, Nov 4, 7:30pm (TSN5) - Page 10 852933671

Ya, Neil is a tough guy to have on the team in general. He's pretty terrible but brings good energy to the team. Unfortunately he ends up dragging down his linemates. Zac Smith and Legwand won't be scoring any 5 on 5 goals any time soon. Could spell a bad year for Smith. I imagine next season will be Neil's last in Ottawa.

Anyone who criticizes Neil's game in general is pretty clueless. He's an ideal 4th liner.

If there's one guy on the team right now that deserves criticism, it's Z-Bad. Neil has more points them in, and is among the league leaders (14th right now) in hits for about the billionth year in a row.

Chris Neil is the ideal 4th liner. Only problem is the guys he's playing with are 3rd liners. He also shouldn't be out in the last minute trying to tie up games. That's on Maclean though, not Neil.

Won't argue that Mika's got to be better, but I've already gone through the reasons why I don't consider his hitting effective any more. Especially if you say he is 14th -- means he's slowed down even in that area.

Borowiecki is not leading the team in hits but that one he delivered last night got the team revved up, got rid of one of their players for 15 minutes, and also got us a PP which we used to score the winner. Borowiecki just stepped up to deliver the hit, he didn't chase anyone or put himself way out of position.

For sure. Borowiecki is doing great and he gets to learn from one of the best watching Chris Neil night after night.

Chris Neil is one of the best openice hitters and enforcers in the game. Saying BoroCop can learn from him is nothing but the truth.

That's so no true anymore. Die he can teach him. With a pass and a pen, and some video from 5 years ago.

Looks like the Neiler caught you with you head down just before you wrote whatever it is you wrote.

Trying to remember what it is I wrote. The swype keyboard is cruel -- it shows me what I typed but sometimes prefers another word which it silently substitutes after I move on.

I think it was supposed to be:

Sure he can teach him. With a pad and a pen ..."
