Jim Nill just confirmed the #Stars strong interest in Spezza. Said as long as a hockey deal can be made, he's interested.

Not sure who this guy is, but could be interesting if Dallas is indeed interested in Spezza and St Louis doesn't get Stastny.

All this "strong" interest BS makes me laugh because it didn't seem that "strong" at the draft. We'll keep Spezza right here in Ottawa, thank you very much!!!

Reality.....We will get very little return for Spezza....we are not a cup contender.....we are barely a playoff team....we are still in the early part of a rebuild....we had one over achievement year....our 3rd and 4th line players are just not that good....I am a sens fan every bit as much as you guys but don't kid yourself about who we are....

My prediction of possibly getting Trivago Guy and a can of baked beans might have been shooting a little high, I take it?!?!?!  Ahhhhh! Ahhhhh!

apperently the stars were a team that was on his no-trade list. that could change. i'd be happy with a return from dallas, would love to see st-louis holding their Richard with no spezza, no stastny.

Almost every year there is a UFA signing (or even a waiver pick up) who goes on to prove his critics wrong. Tell me again how we managed to get MacArthur for free and sign him to a great contract, too? Or what about Kyle Turris (although his pedigree was definitely better).

For one reason or another teams sour on a player and it's very rare that another team says "Holy crap, I can't believe they lost faith/interest in that guy!" More often than not the other 29 GMs assume that the team getting rid of the player has a very good reason for doing so, and they *are* the expert when it comes to that particular player.

We took a flier on MacArthur and it worked out. I don't think we signed him to a very cap-friendly contract because there he had another 5 GMs on hold. Nobody else was interested enough.

Spezza is 2 years (plus a back/knee surgeries away from being a top-4 point getter in the league. Two pretty good reasons for having a sub-par season. Didn't help that a dozen other players had sub-par years at the same time, the Jack Adams winning coach decided to change his methods, and the expectations were sky high after a surprise playoff appearance the year before and the 'C' slapped on his chest.

Mark my words, Spezza *will* rebound and if we trade him for scraps now there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. His time here is over but his career has a few good years left. And if Murray thinks he can get more for Spezza later I'm with him.

Was told #Sens and Stars talked about a Spezza deal on draft day. Apparently Dallas offered a top six forward, forward prospect and a 2nd.

starting to sound promising. next years 1st? a top 6 who's young and a forward prospect?

I just want to remind everyone I said this about Murray a couple years back.

Murray is a builder, and the Sens need a GM that is a finisher and willing to make a bold move.

Yup, I am turning that corner from "Murray fan" to "his time is just about up".  The Ryan move was pretty bold though so credit there and we have yet to see what Spezza brings in.  We will have to see what the Sens look like with the dead weight and old guard almost all gone... could be something special, could be something awful, remains to be seen.

Moving up in the draft to grab a scrawny kid with a great flow was a pretty bold move, too. Trading a "stud" puck mover who broke records in the SEL for another scrawny kid with bad press was a gutsy move. Even the ones that didn't work out (like Filly) were bold moves.

Honestly, do you guys even know what you are talking about? What constitutes a "builder" move and what constitutes a "finisher"? Are you simply dividing drafting from pro scouting?

there's a level of truth to what is being said. i will agree that i was pleasantly surprised with the bobby trade and the turris trade has panned out but BM needs to continue on that volley. he's been saying for a while now how he has to turn his quantity of assets into quality. he might not be able to package certain players with those assets to be able to make that move. Bm has shown that he holds a lot of loyalty to players. probably too much. I'm not sure who the next GM will be after Brian but i'm starting to think that it could be a good thing. keep brian in the advisory role.

Where was his loyalty to JOB?

P.S. Players still on the board when he picked O'Brien (this *will* hurt):

- Subban (yep, this is Lee vs. Kopitar all over again, except 20 picks later in the round)

- Wayne Simmonds

- Jamie Benn

He couldn't have predicted that his coach in 2013 - 14 would derail this youngsters career.

I'd be happy with Nichushkin/Chaisson + B. Ritchie/Glennie + a 1st or 2nd. Love that Roussel kid, too, if he could be worked in somehow -- i.e., instead of the prospect.

On the other hand, if the 'top 6 forward' was someone like Peverley or Cole, I understand why that's a huge pass.

Isn't that what quantum supercomputers are for?

I get what you're saying, but it was still Murray at the podium.

Budget teams can't afford quantum supercomputers.

This one alone has more value than Spezz though

He's a promising young player, but yeah, don't see him anywhere near that valuable anytime soon.

In other news, at least DAL remains a potential option:

Just to clear it up: Spezza would accept a trade to Dallas. There was some confusion. #Sens #ottnews

He got 34 pts as an 18year old in the NHL while being 16th in time one ice on the team.
He was also pretty much tied for 3rd on the team in scoring at the forward position.
I'm pretty sure if you ask Dallas fans, he'd be untouchable.
Would you trade a package including Zibanejad + for a 31 year old Spezza for instance?
