Tough one.  Thornton and Richards were both 1st line centers an wore the C, but Thornton just signed a 3 year deal and Richards had an even longer one.

What?   Vertigo

I guess this was in response to my question about comparables for the Spezza trade?

Then we need to re-sign Spezza pretty much now.  5 years, 35 million so we can start getting serious.  If we trade him as a pending UFA, we'll get a package like the Berglund, Rattie, 1st and that's that.

Can anyone think of an example of a star player with only one year remaining getting traded? I'd love to compare similar situations.

You can also bring up Brent Burns a few years ago. Traded in the summer with a year left, paired with a 2nd round pick and traded for Setoguchi, Coyle and a 1st (28th overall, Zack Phillips). He then signed an extension a couple of months later.

My guess is the Islanders for the 5th overall, a piece like Bailey and a prospect.

I don't think he's gonna waive for the Isles.

What do we want the most as a package from Anaheim?

DPS and a 1st as the very minimal IMO.  Maybe Bonino if they want a center... Cogliano would be solid as well.

Not sure, one has a lot more potential and risk, the other is more of a sure think, you know what you are getting.

You mean your starting to warm up to the package we've discussed we might get from St Louis?

Yes...a little bit anyway.  Why do you ask?

EDIT: I've thought it would be that package from the beginning, either with Rattie or Jaskin, but more likely Rattie. Not having a 1st this draft might be an issue though.

Plus, Berglund hit a wall in the last couple of seasons. Is that a need for concern? Probably not, young players do it all the time. Can he play wing? Someone said he could, but I'm not sure. Etc, etc. etc.

St.Louis has a first in this draft.

if berglund is a center piece you have to think we can do better.
yes with DSP you're getting more risk but he's a player on the upswing. you might be able to add Etem to that deal and +. i like what that brings us. I like picks like everyone but i prefer prospects that are further along and we have a better idea of how they are. especially if it's in this year's draft class.

if you deal with St-louis you want better then Berglund

Berglund is good, scored 20 more than twice I believe at the age of 25. He had a bag year and a bad playoff, it's selling low for St.Louis. Add in Rattie and a 1st and you're in decent shape to be sure.

I just think in some cases we might be overvaluing what we'll get back for Spezza.  Who knows what kind of package we'll get for him, so I just found it funny when you called it the "St Louis package" when it's the furthest thing from official.

It makes the most sense though. St. Louis doesn't give up much off their current roster and gets their top offensive c. Sometimes it doesn't take too much to see what teams would offer.
