Of course. I knew there was one recently.

DSP and the 10th from the Ducks. Does that do it?

Oshie and St. Louis's 1st. Does that do it?

I have no idea what Nashville would give up that the Sens would want. Who else have we mentioned on here? Dallas? Phoenix? Anyone have proposals for those teams?

not really comparable. st-louis is at the end of his career and I would of added Vanek as a comparable but it's pretty much accepted that he would walk and sign with minni.
spezza although often injured is entering his 30's and there is a big possibility that he resigns with the team he's sent to.
I think you have a team entertain discussions with spezza before he's traded(not really legal but it happens behind close doors) and then your return is bigger or there's a provision in the deal that kicks in if he's resigned. example: Schwartz, jaskin plus a 1st in 2015 if resigned.

I don't think Spezza will get a contract negotiated with his new team before he his traded.

I think he goes as a "one year rental" for a price around Oshie + 1st.

From the Stars, I would look for Chiasson or Nichuschkin to come back in a Spezza deal.

DSP plus a 10th from the Ducks might be a little low, but I'd consider it. I don't know enough about DSP to be sure.

They need to move Spezza before or at the draft, if it drags on past July 4th then the Sens will be in trouble.  The next month is going to be filled with rumors and BS to be sure.

One thing the Sens need going into next year is a PF whether that's Stewart, DSP, Oshie, or whoever else.

I wouldn't trade Spezza to St.Louis unless it was Oshie or better coming back to be honest, the idea is to make the Sens better, not to help the Blues.

As for St.Louis they can have all the hard working players who play 200 feet they want, they need a guy who can score and help others score.  Oshie is a crowd favorite for sure but he's expendable in St.Louis in a big way.  It's probably a good thing fans don't make decisions and they won't be making them in St.Louis either.

The only reason I could see this happening is because of what you stated, they have so many average offensively players who have 'heart' and too few actual offensive players, but that's a risky trade without Spezza agreeing to an extension.

If St Louis is indeed his top, or near his top choice, there is a really good chance he re-signs there shortly after July 1st.

Then we need to re-sign Spezza pretty much now.  5 years, 35 million so we can start getting serious.  If we trade him as a pending UFA, we'll get a package like the Berglund, Rattie, 1st and that's that.

That first round pick is basically worth little in this draft.

Tough one. Thornton and Richards were both 1st line centers an wore the C, but Thornton just signed a 3 year deal and Richards had an even longer one.

It'd be worth nothing in this draft, because it'd be for 2015. Unless I'm wrong, then I apologize.  Smile

maybe, maybe not. you might see people outbidding each other after whoever missed out on stastny will be trying to up their game. plus they could be trading for spezza that comes with a contract in hand.

His value will be higher because it is a guaranteed move. There are no guarantees you can land your #1 even your #2 UFA. St Louis makes the most sense right now. I'm glad Stewart isn't the key piece coming back in a deal - it could have been the case if he wasn't traded to Buffalo.

The 2015 first round pick of St Louis belongs to Buffalo from the Miller trade, I believe.

This is exactly the thing. They have an abundance of the type of players that other teams are dying for, but they're missing a game-breaker. Tarasenko isn't far from being a game-breaker, but he isn't there yet.

This might become a perfect "make them better, make us better" trade.

I think they only got that pick if Miller re-signed.

This is a really good point that needs consideration. If he goes to a place that he (basically) chooses, he's extremely likely to re-sign.

I guess this was in response to my question about comparables for the Spezza trade?

Can anyone think of an example of a star player with only one year remaining getting traded? I'd love to compare similar situations.

You can also bring up Brent Burns a few years ago. Traded in the summer with a year left, paired with a 2nd round pick and traded for Setoguchi, Coyle and a 1st (28th overall, Zack Phillips). He then signed an extension a couple of months later.
