It went off a skate. The redirection was going to miss by a mile.

How long is the Prust suspension? 2 games?

Apparently Danny "Car Bomb" Carcillo will get 10 - 20 games for abuse of official, according to Dreger.

I only saw the 3rd period and OT. Habs had a couple lucky goals there to win, and the Rags equalizer late was lucky. Tokarksi was really good...if he keeps that up, the Habs has a long shot of winning.

Prust should probably get one game since the hit was late and there was no penalty on the play.

Yeah Carcillo is challenged. Nothing new here.

Did you actually review the play or are you going by twitter chatter? I wouldn't be surprised if he gets nothing.

True... but in this new NHL blindside hits to the head are not supposed to be allowed.  Neil's hit on Drury.. had it happened in the new NHL would have got him about a 10 game or more suspension.  I assume since Stepan came back.. there will be no suspension.  So that POS gets away with another dirty play.

I doubt it. Neil did not make a beeline for Drury from the blind side -- if anything, he took a wider path to deliver the hit more from the front. Initial point of contact was shoulder on shoulder and it was only the follow-through that hit the head.

Mind you, they suspended Gryba even though everyone without a bias said it was a clean hit.

I'm not going to lose sleep if Prust is suspended -- don't like the player. But I'm also not convince there will be a suspension.

I don't go on twitter much anymore. The NHL can't do nothing about a late blind side hit. 1 game at least.

Stepan has a broken jaw and is out. Prust will be suspended a game or two.

Went frame by frame here: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/22/video-prust-nails-stepan-with-questionable-hit-rangers-reply-carcillo-tossed/

You can pause and then advance using right arrow. Not every arrow-click will get you a frame but you can easily see when the frame advances. Counted how many frames there are between the seconds advance in the on-screen game timer and it's 30 frames (technically I think it's actually 29.73 or something stupid like that but it's pretty clear this is the NTSC frame rate generally referred to as 30 fps).

From the moment the puck left the stick and the shoulder made contact, there were 22 frame advances. That's 0.73 seconds -- just under 3/4 of a second. I'm not sure what the definition of a late hit is -- they are very generous on "finishing your check". If it's a half second, then it's a late hit; if it's 1 second or more it's not a late hit.

Prust never leaves his feet. Not even on the follow through. He simply does not drive up through the hit (not like Colby Armstrong, for example).

Hit is with shoulder, elbows are down. Looking at the overhead view the head does not snap back until Prust's shoulder is way under Stepan's head -- not explaining it well, but it looks like the shoulder passes under the chin, so initial point of contact is not the head.

Further, Stepan does a little deke after passing the puck and Prust has to adjust at the last second -- that's going to play into it as well.

Lastly, Stepan gets up and starts screaming at Prust, looked like he wanted to fight him. Certainly didn't act like he had a broken jaw with all the yapping. Came out three minutes later and finished the game, too.

I am not a fan of Prust. The hit was predatory and unnecessary. There was time for him to react and ease up -- not to completely avoid the hit but to certainly lessen its severity. All that said, I would not be surprised if there was no suspension.

By the way, right after the hit, Nash has a chance in all alone. Nobody touches him but as he's trying to stick handle in the crease around Tokarski his feet come flying from under him and he narrowly misses destroying Tokarski.

I'm fully on-board that Kreider's play was an accident, losing his balance as a result of Emelin breaking his stick on his right ankle. But I'm scratching my head about this one. Nash has his feet wide apart, steady, receives the puck -- I have no idea why he suddenly falls. One eyebrow is certainly raised.

In a league full of idiots he stands apart. Not too many throw an elbow at an official.

Thing is, he doesn't get paid for post-season games so this doesn't cost him anything. Doesn't really cost the Rangers either (it's not like his presence in the lineup prevented Prust from knocking out Stepan).

If they want post-season suspensions to be more meaningful they should fine them the amount of money the suspension would have cost them during the regular season.
