Dustin Brown for Spezza? I'm intrigued.....makes a lot of sense. Kopitar and Spezza down the middle...what we shoudl have seen here in Ottawa

It's a good counter for the kings next season to the san jose sharks who I think might finally win the big cheese. And I get the sense brown is out of favor with the staff in LA.

Meh, maybe you're right actually. If they can re-sign Spezza before the trade goes down, then I can see them thinking about it. But...Spezza would be eaten alive in the Pacific...yikes.

Brown would be pretty good, yeah, and he can play either wing. His offensive production took a dip this season...that's my only concern, but could also be a reason why LA would want to be rid of him.

His contract is a cap hit of $5.875M until 21-22.

captain with a cup ring... i think we'd do well to bring in some players that have been instrumental in winning a cup.

It's a pretty lengthy contract, though I am not opposed to adding Brown to our roster. Wouldn't need Chris Stewart anymore that's for sure.

I think I'd still be more comfortable going after Toffoli and Voynov, even if it means it's Spezza + and they include a 1st rd pick.

Spezza also has a limited NTC. 10 teams they can't trade him to unless he waives. Have to imagine Winnipeg and Edmonton are on his list. Not really sure where else he wouldn't want to play. Maybe Carolina, Buffalo, Islanders as well?

Dustin Brown's contract is also front-loaded. Not sure Melnyk will justify adding $3M more in payroll for the next three seasons.

Good point. Adding talent isn't in the cards for Ottawa. I almost got caught up in hoping we could land a player of this calibre but thanks for reminding me that I cheer for the Senatores and I don't get to look forward to any improvements as such.

I believe he's from Ithaca, NY - nice little drive from Ottawa. One of my favourite captains in the league.
