It would take an overpayment to send him to a conference rival IMO. Talk about a move that could bite us in the arse, Columbus is already a better cohesive unit than we are, adding Spezza could be what puts them in the playoffs and keeps us out.
I wouldn't trade him there. Columbus is primed to be pretty much the team we want to be - and they could add Spezza and be really dangerous.
Dallas, Phoenix, LA, St.Louis (maybe)Columbus, NYR, maybe Anaheim, maybe Colorado, all these are teams that could potentially use Spezza.
Say no to Columbus, lest you want the Sens arse kicked over and over by them (which will probably happen anyway).
Sens are not competing, you take the best deal you possibly can get for the player you are trading. Hell, they might be lobbing a grenade in there too. Perfect example, see Luongo/Schenider.
I didn't understand that post. We're not competing for what? A playoff spot? We better be.
I understand the grenade comment, but what does that have to do with Luongo and Schneider?
Schneider wasn't dealt to Edmonton for a better deal nor was Luongo. Both teams missed the playoffs but Vancouver is a total mess because they refused to deal in division on top of some other moves.
You make the best trade possible for your hockey team, simple as that. It's not Crosby being traded, it's Spezza.
