Compliance buyouts are coming. Lots of teams still have one or both buyouts available.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/countdown-to-nhl-buyout-season-what-we-know/

Possible buyout targets:

Leino
Umberger
Cole
Jovanovski
Volchenkov
Richards
Havlat
Malone
Booth
Laich (but he'd have to pass a physical -- failed year-end and is on IR)

also there's no telling who we're getting back if we trade spezza. there could be a potential young C in there to step in the 2nd C role or alternate with zib.

ya... mmmhh well... i'd take richards on a short term contract, again depending who we have here by then.

Brad Richards would be an ideal stop gap at 2C.

ya. i just think some team is going to offer him a 5 year contract. probably lesser money but 5x5 might be right. reminds me of the vinny lecavalier situation a little.

If Richards continues like he has so far (playoffs) he's probably redeemed himself. Even just based on his regular season, probably.

I also don't think he would sign in Ottawa. Now, the Rangers could just trade him and keep some of his salary.

might be more advantageous to the rangers to rid themselves of the cap space of keeping part of his salary. plus you'd have to find a team that wants him for 6 years. makes more sense to go the buyout route.

Not in Ottawa... What player of his ilk actually signs with any Canadian team..

Totally classless.. No other word for it...  IF they do trade him, I hope they go for a 2015 first round pick included.  Screw this draft.. It's not the best.. next year's is.  This team stands a good chance of not making the playoffs next season... So a top 10 pick in 2015 plus one more would do good for the team.  After all.. it's mandate now is to save Melnyk money and develop players and not to try to win the Cup...

You keep saying that with absolutely no basis behind it.

This team will be younger next season with less experience in the top 6. I'm taking out Spezza, Hemsky & Michalek. If Spezza is traded... we don't know what is coming back. Teams will try to get him for a little as they can and some say it won't be much of a return... I'm not confident a top 6 player is coming to Ottawa as a UFA. After that speech of Melnyk's saying the team is going to develop.. that tells a lot of outsiders it's not spending to win... After ditching two captains in successive seasons, doesn't look good for the team either... And Murray made no reference to upgrading that defense... Look at the other teams in the East... Do you think a younger less experienced team with the same porous defense as last season... is going to get into the top 8? I don't. Don't get me wrong.. I love this team (minus it's owner) and I am still and will continue to be a season ticket holder.. as long as I can afford it..

Ville Leino made $4M this season. He had ZERO goals... 15 points... Now that's some bang for your buck...

sandy, you spend way too much time over on SC.
what about when they resign Bobby Ryan? won't that send out a positive message? what about the other players Bm said he was going to give extentions to?
I'm not a fan of melnyk either but lets be honest we don't know until the summer what moves they're really thinking of. murray will likely be making moves that will bring in talent via trade(other then spezza) also. it's not like we're buying out spezza. this team is going to get some talent. there's plenty of teams out there that will be interested. there's 19 teams that spezza can end up on. do you honestly think there's not going to be a bit of bidding war?

seriously sandy...

i'm not convinced spezza is gone by the draft. might have to wait till after FA, but in all honesty there will be a time when he's moved and it won't be for a bag of pucks.

I haven't been on SC for 2 years now. So glad....it's just doom and gloom and let's hate on melnyk session there 24/7. I guess you'll resort to that kind of noise when you have no real inside sources anymore.

You move Spezza out and the whole team identity changes.  You put WAY too much stock into the offensive part of the game, Sandy.  This team is on par with most of the other teams in the East, the only team I would say is head and shoulders above Ottawa is Boston... even Pitt has their issues.  The Sens will be younger but they will also be faster, harder, more responsible, more to prove, and easier to coach.

At the end of the day you over value Spezza and undervalue everyone and everything else on the Sens from Turris to MacLean to every other player.  Your love for Spezza clouds what is very obvious.

Also, yes Sandy. Stop posting on SC, it's full of morons who's opinions are beyond ignorant.

I hardly ever go to SC anymore, only when i'm bored as hell and i've gone pretty much anywhere else i could go for info. (he's just a step above hockey buzz)
but i wouldn't say he's all gloom and doom. if anything i find he's gotten pretty soft. his article are just regurgitation of what everyone knows. My guess is that he's for the most part tooting the sens partyline so that they might give him a tinny morsel of information someday agin. it's quite a boring read for now. on top of it everyone on there sucks up to him it's unbelievable.  Facepalm

maybe we can be a little harsh on here and it would be nice to have a few more posters over here but at least it's not mindless like on so many other sites. still you have to think there's some people out there unaware of this site that would be good contributors.
