Trade Deadline BONANZA 2014

Methot isn't even resigned as of yet beyond next year, Cowen is playing like an AHLer, Wiercioch is looking solid, Borowiecki hasn't stuck long term, and Claeson is 20.  The blueline in Ottawa is already way too young with Phillips, this signing is for Ceci more than anyone because there isn't one playing beside Phillips I would trust in the organization to play next to that kid.

The good news, Richardson said Mark Borowiecki is expected back on the ice for practice this week. The B-Sens captain did not make the Canada trip with the team because of a lower body injury.

And Claesson's suspension is only 1 game. Question, though. BSens don't play until Saturday. If the NHL honors AHL suspensions and they bring him up, is he eligible to play after Bingo's game on Saturday, or can he miss, let's say, the Oilers game and play against Calgary?

True, but the question is "When?"

They should lock up Methot to a long term deal. He's the key cog to everything running smoothly IMO.

And they will for sure. He's playing fantastic again and has become the media darling of Ottawa (big fan fav, no way they let him go). He wants to stay too. i'm sure he'll get a similar deal to girardi though, maybe $500-$750K less

Then you let him walk in the summer, rather than give him more than 1 year. Murray is not leaving himself many options signing a declining player to a muliyear deal.

I wouldn't trust anyone in the organization to play with Ceci for the rest of this year or next and that's as important as anything going forward.  Phillips being in Ottawa still provides stability on the back end and leadership on and off the ice.  Still a guy who knows how to be a pro and that's more then you can say about the guy wearing the "C" now.

I dunno where I stand on Phillips. I was looking forward to the idea of getting a prospect back. with the understanding that we'd be losing a few soon. Picks right now aren't helping much I agree but it's ups and downs with phillips, i agree that he's been good with Ceci. I hope he doesn't come with a NTC so we have the option of moving him if he becomes expendable.

I'm sure he'll come in at a price where, if he sucks that bad, he can be scratched and still show the youngsters how to be good pros.

I see no downside here.

2.25 per year is my guess - which is a good deal.
