Again, he will be a winger at the NHL level.  Doesn't have the body or game to be an effective center in the top 6.
He has never played wing in the NHL or AHL so I don't see it.

He is a prototypical centre with his skating (slower, patient) and vision.

If they put him on the wing with Pageau....well...maybe.

Mike Comrie is the best comparison for Da Costa IMO and Comrie was fine on the wing. Very similar games. Learning the wing is not hard.

Like those lines a lot. Da Costa is going to get a lot of room with those two playing beside him. Hope that works out, no reason not to be 100% comfortable on the ice if you are him at this point.

I for one am happy this is happening because I still see a lot of bad habits in his play, so inconsistent when it comes to physical play and lacks Pageau's poise with the puck in the offensive zone. He is not even close to where he needs and CAN be.

And it's not like I am hating on the kid, I was one of the only guys in here who thought he would become a PPG player and still think he will.

And please, DaCosta will not be sent away in the following weeks. Dude is gonna perform very well this year.
Murray sums it up: "To be true to our words when we ask players to do things and they do it, and we don't reward them, we are not the right people to give kids the opportunity they deserve"
Remember Filatov?
Not even close to have the same compete level

did anyone notice but The Team 1200 just became a TSN radio station? maybe that's a big reason Mendes made the switch. that coud be a big springboard if ottawa ever gets their own TSN TV air time the way winnipeg does.

Pretty nice, IMO. 690 is still a better product. But dropping Rome for local content is a step in the right direction.

I am actually very happy with this move. Zib was outplayed this training camp by not 2 but 3 players and the organization rewarded the harder working players. Sending him down really sends a message to him and the organization as a whole. It also makes sense as Ottawa wants to develop Zib as a center and there's no room in their top-six right now. In Bingo, he gets an opportunity to center the top line composed of high-potential prospects rather than being tested on the wings or centering a fourth line given his camp. I think it's beneficial for everyone that he start the season down there.

People are reading into this too much though. On the business side, Zib is on a two-way and the Sens did not want to lose Da Costa on waivers for nothing. I am assuming BM tries to work out a deal early in the season to trade some depth for picks so Zib and maybe Stone have a chance to crack the roster at some point. Also given our injury history, Zib will likely be back up within a matter of weeks (knock on wood).

I am not sure how they plan on using Pageau/Da Costa though. Did Pageau earn himself 3rd line duties? If so, Da Costa on the fourth doesn't make sense to me...

Michalek- Spezza- Ryan
MacArthur-Turris- Conacher
Greening- Pageau- Condra
Smith- Da Costa- Neil

I think Da Costa will be on the third line with Pageau and Condra will see 4th line duty. The other wild card is Conacher. If he doesn't start producing he'll find himself in the press box in short order because he's not a good fit for 3rd or 4th line duty

Very true. I know he was scratched a few games down the stretch but I really like his game (minus the penalties). He can score, he wins battles, he's got good offensive vision, and players love picking on him because he's small. Hopefully the penalties he took last year translate to the penalties he'll draw this year.
